| The Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks Engage in a Battle of the Birds |
All of the NFL Odds for this game and the entire week four NFL schedule can be found at online sportsbook BetPhoenix. The stats bear out so far that Seattle does play better at home. The Seahawks gave up 33 points to San Francisco in a week one loss and 24 in a week two loss at Pittsburgh. Seattle gave up only 10 points at home last week against Arizona. However, the Seattle offense is going to have to play improved ball if it hopes to stay competitive. Running back Marshawn Lynch was supposed to be a spark after he arrived in a trade last year from Buffalo. However, he is averaging a little over 3 yards a carry so far this season. Quarterback Tavaris Jackson, signed as a free agent from Minnesota in the offseason, has also underwhelmed and calls for Charlie Whitehurst are already starting. Atlanta should have fewer problems on offense this week against Seattle. If Atlanta sticks to running the ball with Micheal Turner, they should have the ability to control the clock and set up deep passes to receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones, who was a first round pick this year that Atlanta traded 4 draft picks to acquire. Sticking with the run was an issue last week when the Falcons ran the ball 15 times and only netted 30 total yards off of those carries against Tampa Bay. Unless you are the New England Patriots, it is going to be hard to win games like that. Balance is going to be key this week. Quarterback Matt Ryan should see some extra time in the pocket against a weaker Seattle pass rush. Seattle has netted only 5 sacks in three games so far this season. Considering the elite pass rushes of the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears, the pass rush of the Seahawks should be relatively easy to handle. For the Falcons, it will be important to establish themselves as an elite team that is capable of beating lesser opponents on the road. A win would be a boost of confidence as they set their sights on closing in on New Orleans and Tampa Bay in the NFC South standings and propelling themselves to another playoff run. The Seahawks will need to run the ball better than they have the first three weeks of the season and hope that the home crowd is enough to force Atlanta into mental errors to keep the game close. If not, this game could get away quickly. Seattle is a good team at home and has an exclusive home field advantage that is one of the best in the league. That may be all they need to keep this game close.
