| The New England Patriots Try and Rebound Against the Oakland Raiders |
All of the NFL Odds for this game and the entire week four NFL schedule can be found at online sportsbook BetPhoenix. Tom Brady, who nonetheless set an NFL record for the most passing yardage after three games (1,327), saw his 4 TD passes go for naught as Buffalo, trailing 21-0 at one point in the second-quarter, roared back behind QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (27 for 40, 369 yards, 2 TDs) and sealed the upset on PK Rian Lindell's 28-yard field goal as time expired. The Patriot's problems (other than Brady's INTs) can be attributed primarily to its very un-Belichick defense, especially in the secondary as well as sloppy tackling. Fitzpatrick's pin-point passing repeatedly victimized New England, specifically in the second half. Other than LB Jarrod Mayo, several Pat defenders made costly mistakes, and Buffalo was only too happy to take advantage, a turnaround from recent seasons, when the Bills consistently were the team that blew games. RB Darren McFadden of Oakland made a strong case for himself being the NFL's newest elite rusher this past Sunday, piling up 171 yards and 2 TDs in Oakland's 34-24 home upset over the suddenly reeling New York Jets. McFadden regularly either outran or out-maneuvered Jet defenders, no doubt making Jets coach Rex Ryan see red (or black, the Raiders' signature color). McFadden wasn't the only Raider who stepped up however. QB Jason Campbell directed the Oakland offense almost flawlessly, connecting on 18 of 27 passes for 156 yards. But it was definitely Oakland's ground game that made the difference in this game, piling up 234 yards on 32 attempts, a remarkable 7.3 yards per run figure. Due to the success Oakland enjoyed via the run, Campbell's receivers weren't a big factor, although the former Redskin QB made efficient use of all his available weapons throughout the afternoon. Defensively, the Raiders continued to display a bit of a return to the old-school "Silver and Black," hard-hitting style that once characterized the team during its' heyday. The Raider front-line harassed Jets QB Mark Sanchez constantly, keeping both him and his receivers off-balance. Despite all the distractions and swarming Oakland defenders, Sanchez threw for a career-best 369 yards, but the Jets attack either fizzled or was wrapped up by the defense when it mattered. This game will show if the Raiders are ready to play with the best teams in the league. The Patriots will try and fix their leaky defense as they face one of the best players in the league.
