The Washington Redskins Head to St. Louis to Battle the Rams

The Washington Redskins are on a short week and will have to try and get focused to take on the St. Louis Rams.

All of the NFL Odds for this game and the entire week four NFL schedule can be found at online sportsbook BetPhoenix.

The Washington Redskins found themselves on the short end of the final score, 16-18, on Monday, September 26, 2011, against the Dallas Cowboys. The Saint Louis Rams lost to the Baltimore Ravens 37-7. Both teams have much to prove on Sunday. Washington needs to continue to prove that their record is no fluke. The Rams need to prove that they want to play football, and their coach needs to prove that he wants the job.

If the Washington Redskins are going to beat the Rams they must return to the basics. They must make sure they are using things taught by every high school coach across the nation, such as proper tackling position and proper footwork. Brandon Banks must bring the ball out of the end zone at the right time giving the Redskins better field position. The Redskins should look to go long early, causing the Rams confusion. Both Anthony Armstrong and Donte Stallworth must rise to the occasion and have their biggest games of this season. The Redskins must convert more of their third down attempts. They converted on just three of 12 attempts on Monday night. With the improved basics, the Redskins should be able to gain more yardage in their running game. Against Dallas, Washington ran 22 times, but only ended up with 65 yards. That makes it hard for any team to win. This team is currently 16th in the NFL Power Rankings. With a few simple corrections, this team can rank much higher and be in the hunt for the NFC East championship.

St. Louis ranks next to last in the NFL Power Rankings. On Sunday, September 25, 2011, they lost to Baltimore 37-7. The Rams have been very disappointing all year and are one of a handful of teams that have not won a game yet this season. The first thing that the Rams must do is learn to play without penalties. Good football teams have very few penalties. The Rams have been plagued not only with penalties, but with personal fouls. The team must learn to eliminate these costly mistakes. On Sunday, the team lost 117 yards to these penalties.

The second thing that the Rams must do immediately is provide better coverage to Sam Bradford. He is being hit way too many times. Not only is this not leaving the Rams with good field position, but it may lead to a nervous Bradford who is afraid to do the right thing. Bradford completed only 50 percent of his passes on Sunday. Almost all of these passes were for very short yardage giving him only one touchdown and 166 yards for the day. He was also intercepted one time and sacked five times.

The Rams have plenty of things that they need to do if they want to win this game. The Rams are a desperate team looking to get into the win column and the pressure is on.
