| Boise State Looks to Stay Perfect Against the Fresno State Bulldogs |
After losing at 3-1, 0-1 California and No. 15 Nebraska the first two weeks by two touchdowns apiece, Fresno State hobbled past 3-2 North Dakota 27-22 before burying 1-4, 0-1 Idaho on the road 48-24. However in Week Five the Bulldogs wimpered away in the fourth quarter to fall to 2-3, 0-2 Mississippi 38-28. Following sophomore quarterback Derek Carr's first-quarter TD to junior wide receiver Rashard Evans, the Rebels scored twice to take their first lead. The lead only stood for 1:54 as sophomore WR Jalen Saunders raced home from 26 yards out. Then in the second half Fresno State reclaimed the lead 21-20 on junior running back Robbie Rouse's rushing TD. After another Ole Miss score Carr drove in from a yard out to put the Bulldogs ahead 28-27. Looking at the stat sheet a few things stand out. One is the Rebels were penalized six more times and the other was Fresno State shot themselves in the foot twice with turnovers compared to none by their opponent. The Bulldogs totaled 14 yards more in the game as both teams converted 6-of-13 third downs. 4-0 Boise State might be the most underrated team in the nation. After a 35-21 win in Atlanta against 3-2, 2-1 Georgia, the Broncos busted up 2-3, 1-0 Toledo in an away game and drubbed 2-3, 1-0 Tulsa and 1-3, 1-0 Nevada by 20 apiece in games where the opposition scored late. The Wolf Pack actually scored 10 points in the fourth quarter after looking like a jay-vee squad the first three periods on offense against Boise State's defense who yielded 182 yards the entire game. Just 2/for/14 was Nevada on third down as their defense kept the Wolf Pack close. The Broncos were just 6/for/14 themselves on third down as senior QB Kellen Moore's 142-yard night was anything but pretty. Along with two TDs to senior RB D.J. Harper and Matt freshman WR Miller Moore was picked off twice. Boise State will no longer have a complaint when it comes to the college football rankings or the national championship, if they fall short in this contest against Fresno State.
