| California Golden Bears Attempt to Ground the Ducks |
Oregon ran for 415 yards on Arizona who conceded 101 passing yards in a game pitting one dynamic rushing attack against a prolific passing attack. The Ducks couldn't stop senior quarterback Nick Foles from a 34/for/57 night of 398 yards and three TDs. However stopping Arizona's ground game along with smart QB play from junior QB Darron Thomas helped Oregon stay in control the entire way. Accompanying Thomas' two passing and rushing TDs were junior running backs Kenjon Barner and LaMichael James scoring two rushing TDs apiece too as James registered a most insane 288 rushing yards. Barner added a passing TD reception to his name in the stat sheet while senior tight end David Paulson had the other Thomas throwing TD against the Wildcats in Week Four. The Ducks were a masterful 4/for/9 on third down and 2/for/2 on fourth down while Arizona was 6/for/19 on third down and 5/for/7 on fourth down. Despite going for it seven times on fourth down the Wildcats still punted four times while Oregon booted the ball just once for the game. In the Ducks' only home game so far against an FBS opponent this year Oregon routed 1-3, 1-0 Nevada 69-20 on Sept. 10. On the road Cal barely won at 1-4, 0-1 Colorado 36-33 and barely fell at Washington by eight. The Bears were deep in the Huskies' territory, but failed four times to reach the end zone from a few yards away. Had Cal gotten another TD they would have had to make a two-point conversion. All the Bears had done earlier on offense was gain 48 more yards than Washington in part because Cal punted only once in the first half. It took the Bears two minutes to score their first TD on junior QB Zach Maynard's 90-yard flick to sophomore wide receiver Keenan Allen as senior placekicker Giorgio Tavecchio sank two field goals. Then Cal struck right before halftime on the ground thanks to junior RB C.J. Anderson. In the second half after a 13-play 80-yard drive producing a 25-yard FG, the Bears punted twice and turned the ball over on downs twice to fall flat on their face. The Ducks should win this game but anything can happen on a Thursday night in college football so stay tuned for this game and get ready for college football excitement.
