| The Utah Utes Take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in a Desert Battle |
The Utes began the night by fumbling the first kickoff of the game. To make matters worse the Huskies returned the kickoff 18 yards for a score. Then midway through the first quarter junior quarterback Jordan Wynn found freshman wide receiver Dres Anderson to knot up the score. Unfortunately for Utah, they didn't strike again until seven seconds left in the game when junior QB Jon Hays hooked up with junior tight end Dallin Rogers. Unable to get a running game going was Utah who lost three fumbles and threw two picks. The Utes' next opponent 3-1, 1-0 Arizona State fared a little better beating 0-4, 0-1 Oregon State 35-20. Junior QB Brock Oseweiler had another shaky game throwing three interceptions while finding junior WR A.J. Pickens and senior WR Gerell Robinson for touchdowns. Junior running back Cameron Marshall also had two rushing TDs for the Sun Devils who found themselves down 13-0 20 seconds into the second quarter at home. After two Osweiler passing TDs junior WR Jamal Miles returned a punt 78 yards to the house for the final first-half score. The Utes lost 23-14 at 4-1, 2-1 USC in their conference opener. Surely Utah is going to win a couple home games in the Pac-12, but to beat Arizona State will be a tall order. The Sun Devils did fall at No. 16 Illinois by three in their only prior road test this season, but the 5-0, 1-0 Fighting Illini weren't coming off a disgruntling result the week before. Going to Salt Lake City will begin a brutal back-to-back weeks in conference with a visit to No. 9 Oregon looming on Oct. 15. This game will pit two teams against one another that are ready to take it to the next level and show that they can compete for the best team in the division.
