The Indianapolis Colts Look For Their First Win Against the KC Chiefs

The Indianapolis Colts have yet to get a win on the year, but they hope a game against the Kansas City Chiefs will change all of that. The latest NFL betting spread on this game can be found at Bet Phoenix. Sign up today and get great bonuses to bet on the NFL.

The Indianapolis Colts, still reeling from the loss of their record-setting QB Peyton Manning, looked quite a bit better on Monday night, but still fell short, remaining winless (0-4) after a 24-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Manning, probably out for the entire season with a neck injury, was looking on from the Colt's coach's box as his replacement, Curtis Painter, had some encouraging moments but also displayed his inexperience. Painter went 13 for 30 for 281 yards and 2 long TD passes to WR Pierre Garcon in his first NFL start. Garcon did much of the legwork on the two scores, but Painter displayed a good grasp of mismatches and timing as he delivered the balls effectively. With all of the Colts receiving weapons, it's hoped that Painter will continue to improve each week and somehow lead the Colts to salvage something of a lost season. RB Joseph Addai is an effective inside runner, but is even more dangerous in space, something Indianapolis coaches need to work into their game planning. Addai had only 41 yards on 11 carries, but appears to be ready to do much more. The Colts have multiple receiving weapons, and getting Painter comfortable and familiar with their capabilities is the key.

As long as Indianapolis has DEs Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis wreaking havoc on opposing QBs, the Colts have a chance. The problem is the surrounding personnel isn't contributing enough to provide balance. Injuries and using inexperienced players at key positions is also a factor.

After last season's surprising "worst-to-first" season in the AFC West, the Kansas City Chiefs have run into problems in 2011. Their initial victory, 22-17 over the even more ineffective Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, wasn't pretty by any barometer, but it's a start.

Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was able to grab a long ball from Cassell on a 52-yard TD pass early in the fourth-quarter to put KC up by a dozen (22-10), and gave them the cushion they needed. PK Ryan Succop's franchise record-tying 5 field goals was the only other offense the Chiefs could muster. Cassel went 18 for 29 for 260 yards, while Bowe's five receptions for 107 yards led the receiving corps' contributions.

Kansas City's defense last season was essentially a "bend-but-don't-break" type of unit, but unfortunately, the 2011 version has been more "break" than "bend." The defense allowed 41 and 48 points in Weeks 1 and 2, and although they've gotten better in the ensuing weeks, there's plenty of room for improvement.

Now the Colts are at home in this big game and they have a chance to get their first win of the season. One win could turn around the season for the struggling Colts.
