The Young Carolina Panthers Look to Pounce on the New Orleans Saints

The Carolina Panthers have a very explosive young player in Cam newton and he will get a chance to take down the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The latest NFL betting spread on this game can be found at Bet Phoenix. Sign up today and get great bonuses to bet on the NFL.

Carolina once again had to settle for a "moral victory" this past Sunday in their 34-29 loss to the Chicago Bears. Rookie QB Cam Newton continued to make those who doubted his ability to become an actual NFL quarterback eat more of their words by using his elite athleticism to dazzle opponents, only it's his amazing poise and unflappability that is turning heads. Newton thoroughly outplayed his opposite number, Bears QB Jay Cutler by completing 27 of 46 passes for 374 yards and a touchdown. Newton has now shattered all rookie records for the start of a career, having thrown for 1,386 yards and 5 TDs. Newton also scored twice himself on Sunday, bringing his rushing total to 133 yards and 4 TDs.

The Carolina ground game, all but absent through the first three weeks, found itself in Chicago, getting 134 yards from D.Williams and Stewart. Newton's receivers also came up big, with WR Steve Smith hauling in 8 passes for 181 yards, becoming Carolina's all-time career leader in yardage during the afternoon.

Defensively, it's an entirely different story, especially the run defense and special teams play. Chicago's RB Matt Forte bludgeoned the Panther defenders for a career-high 205 yards (an NFL-season high) and a TD on 25 carries. The electrifying Devin Hester also made short work of Carolina tacklers, returning a punt 69 yards for a TD as well as returning a kickoff 73 yards to set up another score. Hester's TD, the 11th punt return TD of his career, now puts him all alone in the category.

New Orleans took care of Jacksonville on Sunday, 23-10, keeping them atop the NFC South with a 3-1 record. The game was almost a total mismatch, with the Saints able to move up and down the field while the Jaguars continue to struggle on offense.

Brees connected on 31 of 44 attempts for 351 yards and a TD, while off-season signee RB Darren Sproles continues to benefit his new team in several ways, piling up 188 total yards offensively, 75 on rushing, 56 receiving and 57 yards on kick returns. Rising star TE Jimmy Graham continues to help his fantasy numbers, hauling in 10 of Brees' passes for 132 yards. On the afternoon, New Orleans rolled up 503 yards of offense, and went a crisp 7 for 14 on third-down conversions.

The Saints defense was also clicking, harassing Jags rookie QB Blaine Gabbert all afternoon, sacking the young signal-caller 3 times, two by Will Smith, as well as applying 6 QB hits. New Orleans also recorded six tackles for losses, and the secondary, led by Jabari Greer, never let Gabbert get into any type of rhythm on the afternoon.

Now that defense will attempt to feast on another rookie when they go up against Newton, but it won’t be that easy as the Panthers have been a tough opponent all season long.
