Rookie QB Dalton continued to perform well, making the Carson Palmer off-season debacle more and more a distant memory. Dalto completed 18 of 36 passes for 298 yards and a TD, although the TCU rookie suffered a TD on an interception return by Buffalo's Brian Scott in the second quarter. Dalton connected with TE Jermaine Gresham for a 17-yard TD midway through the 3rd quarter to pull Cincinnati within 4 points after trailing 17-3 at the half. Dalton also scored on a 3-yard keeper with just over 4 minutes remaining to bring the Bengals even, 20-20. Cincinnati's ground game continued to impress, racking up 171 yards on the afternoon, led by Cedric Benson's 104 yards on 19 carries.

Bengals prized rookie WR A.J. Green also demonstrated why Cincinnati is so high on his potential, tying Gresham for the team lead in receptions with 4, good for 118 yards. After sitting out opening day, the Georgia product has 19 receptions for 312 yards on the season, and is firmly entrenched as Dalton's primary target. The rookie combo has Bengal fans and coaches excited about the future, something rarely discussed in recent seasons.

Cincinnati's defense did a number on Buffalo's high-powered offense, containing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (20 of 34 for 199 yards, 0 scores), the first opponent to do so this season. The Bengals were also stingy with their run defense, holding the Bills to a season-low 83 yards, including RB Fred Jackson (17 carries, 66 yards). Cincinnati LB Rey Maualuga was especially disruptive, collecting 11 tackles and generally being a pest all afternoon.

The Jacksonville Jaguars continued to struggle offensively in their 23-10 loss to New Orleans, a score that is misleading, since the Saints left at least three other TDs on the field due to mental errors or sloppy execution.. For the afternoon, the Jaguars could muster only 274 yards of offense, while surrendering 503 to New Orleans.

Rookie QB Blaine Gabbert connected on just 16 of 42 pass attempts for 196 yards, as the Jags continue to try and find some consistency when they have the ball. RB Maurice Jones-Drew once again provided the majority of Jacksonville's offense, rushing 11 times for 84 yards. Jones-Drew, however, contributed very little to the passing attack, catching just 1 ball for 3 yards.

The two rookies will face off and the result should be an exciting football game to watch this weekend.
