The Lions are without a doubt THE story so far in the 2011 season, once again displaying remarkable resiliency this past Sunday, coming back from a third-quarter 24-point deficit in Cowboys Stadium to knock off their latest victim, the Dallas Cowboys, 34-30. Detroit's 4-0 won-loss mark is the first time the Lions have been 4-0 since the 1980 season, more than thirty years ago.

QB Matthew Stafford continued to rise among the league's signal-callers, connecting on 21 of 43 attempts for 240 yards and 2 fourth-quarter TDs to All-Pro WR Calvin Johnson. Johnson's two scores tied an NFL record, giving him two scores in each of the season's first four games. On the afternoon, Johnson hauled in 8 passes for 96 yards, while TE Brandon Pettigrew also came up huge, grabbing 6 passes for 64 yards. The Lions ground game wasn't nearly as productive, picking up just 63 yards on 17 carries, led by Jahvid Best's 47 yards on 11 carries. Unlike most "telling" statistics, this game's time of possession numbers is misleading, with Dallas enjoying a 36:39 to 23:21 advantage.

Detroit's defense is the reason for the disparity, especially the two interception returns midway through the third-quarter. Each return provided a huge momentum swing for Detroit, and the feeling of inevitability in the sold-out stadium was clearly evident. Incidentally, the 24-point deficit that Detroit overcame was the worst in Dallas history. LB Steven Tulloch continued to pile up tackles at an impressive rate, his 12 on Sunday giving him 26 for the season.

The Chicago Bears relied on the big play on Sunday in their 34-29 win over the Cam Newton-led Carolina Panthers. Big plays and the sudden re-emergence of RB Matt Forte, who ran over, around and through Panther defenders for a career-best 205 yards on 25 carries. WR Devin Hester also did major damage, returning a punt 69 yards for an NFL-record 11th of his career, while also returning a kickoff 73 yards to set up another Bears score. RB Marion Barber made his first appearance with Chicago, and although he gained just 17 yards on 5 carries, his fourth-quarter TD gave the Bears a comfortable cushion. Barber's presence should allow the Bears to keep Forte fresh, something they've not made a habit of doing.

Defensively, the Bears bent frequently, but never broke. They were hurt by rookie QB Newton's 374 yards, and the re-emergence of Carolina's running attack also caused problems, but in the end, Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, Julius Peppers and Co. made the plays when necessary to pull off a big win.

This will be a true test for the Bears who will have to try to hand the Lions their first loss of the season.
