Texas A&M Looks for second half defense against the Baylor Bears
Texas A&M Looks for second half defense against the Baylor Bears

Texas A&M has had the first half lead in its last two games, but still left with losses. They hope that will change against the Baylor Bears.

College football odds for this game and all of the other games on the college football schedule for week seven can be found at online sportsbook BetPhoenix.

Even though Iowa State hung around with Baylor early it was clear that the only one stopping Bears was the Bears themselves. The game was tied at 14 midway through the second quarter before Baylor ripped off 21 unanswered points and were never challenged thereafter. At the final gun the Bears had piled up over 600 yards with the ability to run or throw with relative ease.

Robert Griffin had another accurate and productive night through the air going 22 of 30 for 212 yards with a touchdown and of course no interceptions as he doesn’t turn over the ball. Griffin proved to be a quality dual threat with another 107 yards on the ground while Terrance Ganaway was the workhorse with 200 yards on just 23 carries with three trips to the end zone. Griffin hit seven different receivers managed the game well although Baylor didn’t look great on either side of the ball before going on their scoring burst almost 20 minutes in. The Bears defense gave up 425 yards and were pushed around early on before stiffening. This unit returned a fumble 86 yards for six but also allowed a 76 yard scoring run.

Texas A&M traded scores with Texas Tech for the better part of 60 minutes which has been a habit lately for the Aggies who have been able to almost score at will but have had issues putting teams away. The offensive totals were not eye popping with 393 yards but this offense scored when it had to and is in scoring range the second the ball is snapped.

Texas A&M had most of their success on the ground with a total of 205 rushing yards and over 4 ½ yards per carry but would have liked to have been a bit more productive simply to keep the Red Raiders offense on the sideline. Cyrus Gray paced the ground game with a 21 carry, 116 yard night. QB Ryan Tannehill and Christine Michael combined for another 107 yards while Tannehill paced the passing game going 16 of 26 for 188 yards and a touchdown. Tannehill spread the ball around to nine different receivers with an intermediate air game going. The Aggies defense was a concern with this unit being touched for 523 yards and 34 first downs and 12 of 14 conversions on third down.

The Aggies need to improve on their second half defense and try to get the lead and keep it against one of the most talented offenses in the country. If they can’t find a way to avoid the second half collapse it could be a long week for the Aggies.
