The Oklahoma Sooners Look To Destroy the Kansas Jayhawks
The Oklahoma Sooners Look To Destroy the Kansas Jayhawks

The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the best teams in the country, so defeating Kansas should be no problem, but covering the big number might be harder than it looks.

Stanford's plagued slow starts didn't start off as badly in Week Six with the Cardinal blocking 1-5, 0-2 Colorado's field-goal attempt and running it back for 75 yards. After senior linebacker Max Bergen raced into the end zone, junior RB Stepfan Taylor made his way down in for six to make it 13-0 Stanford. However sophomore placekicker Jordan Williamson (missed his first FG too of the season) missed the ensuing extra point. That's about all that went wrong for the Cardinal who led 27-7 at halftime.

Senior quarterback Andrew Luck completed two touchdown passes to junior fullback Ryan Hewitt and senior WR Griff Whalen. Junior RB Tyler Gaffney and senior RB Jeremy Stewart also ran one in for Stanford who outgained the Buffaloes 552-264 to crush Colorado 48-7.

The Cougars haven't played at home since a 59-7 spanking of 1-4 UNLV on Sept. 10. Washington State will try to improve to 3-0 at home with an upset of the Cardinal following a deflating loss to the Bruins. After the first quarter the Cougs had 10 first downs to zero for UCLA. The Bruins had just six yards each passing and rushing after one, but only trailed 3-0 with sophomore placekicker Andrew Furney sinking a 21-yard FG. Furney sank a 26-yard FG for Washington State's next score, but UCLA answered the pair of FGs with a long TD drive. Furney sank another 21-yarder to put the Cougs ahead 9-7 as a late interception to end the first half kept the Bruins behind at the break.

After UCLA reclaimed the lead, Washington State's senior QB Marshall Lobbestael completed an eight-yard TD to senior WR Jared Karstetter to put the Cougars back in front. Lobbestael then hooked up with freshman RB Rickey Galvin, but the XP to put them up by nine was blocked. After the Bruins snuck within two, Furney nailed a FG. UCLA then scored again and made the two-pointer after missing it their previous scoring possession. With 3:26 to go Washington State was unable to drive down the field to at least force overtime.

Washington State does not have a chance to beat Stanford, but underdog bettors will hope that they can at least keep it close.
