Kansas State vs. Kansas Game Preview
Kansas State vs. Kansas Game Preview

The Kansas State Wildcats have been a pleasant surprise this year, but they are not getting credit, and hope a win against Kansas will help.

The latest college football odds can be four at online sportsbook Bet Phoenix. For all of your college football wagering needs, Bet Phoenix is the best place to bet on college football.

The BCS' No. 11 Kansas State Wildcats are 6-0, 3-0 despite just one week of having an easy time with it. That was way back on Sept. 17 against 1-6, 0-3 Kent State at home when Kansas State won 37-0. The five other Wildcat wins have been by a total of 22 points. Their next opponent the 2-4, 0-3 Kansas Jayhawks like that because Kansas has been knocked around the last month of the season 228-103.

At home however the Jayhawks have only lost 45-34 to 4-2, 1-2 Texas Tech and 47-17 to No. 3 Oklahoma the last month. The Sooners struggled some at Memorial Stadium last week before scorching Kansas 17-0 during the fourth quarter. After OU got on the scoreboard with a touchdown and field goal, sophomore running back James Sims rumbled 56 yards to give the Jayhawks belief they could compete early. Freshman placekicker Alex Mueller tied the game early during the second as freshman RB Darrian Miller's TD late during the third crept KU within one score again. However the offense struggled immensely in the second half as the defense put up a stern effort but still conceded 610 yards from the line of scrimmage.

The Jayhawk offense was a pathetic 3/for/17 on third down. Kansas will have to improve this week against Kansas State who outgunned the Red Raiders 41-34 in Week Seven. Texas Tech was 6/for/14 on third down, slightly worse than the Wildcats who gained 241 yards but won by forcing four turnovers and a freshman WR Tyler Lockett 100-yard kickoff return. Junior defensive back Nigel Malone's pick six made it 7-0 37 seconds into the game. Finally with 4:55 to go in the first half KSU scored their first TD with junior quarterback Collin Klein getting in through the tackles. Klein found junior WR Chris Harper for a three-yard TD and ran the last two in from two yards and one yard out.

The Wildcats aren't going to win any beauty pageants unless you rate their defense, 21st in the country, then they're at least going to get some votes. Offensively Kansas State is designed to protect and control the ball. Not hitting the home-run ball are the 'Cats (114th in passing, 25th in rushing) who battle the Jayhawks (73rd in passing, 23rd in rushing) this Saturday. Kansas is an alarming 120th in scoring defense and that comes after playing the Sooners pretty tough.

The Wildcats need to have a complete game and get an impressive win to get the country to take notice as they get ready for a showdown against Oklahoma.
