| NFL Preview: Indianapolis Colts vs. New Orleans Saints |
The New Orleans Saints are dead set on getting back to the Super Bowl but they are in a dog fight in the NFC South as they battle it out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons. The Saints are coming off of a tough loss to Tampa Bay last week and because it was a division game it counts almost double in the standings so they have little room for error going forward. Drew Brees was the organizer of the off season workouts and seemed to be prepared for the season but he has thrown eight interceptions to go with his 13 touchdowns while completing 68.6 percent of his passes for 2,152 yards. Mark Ingram has gotten the bulk of the carries in the backfield but he’s averaging just 3.4 yards per carry but has three touchdown runs while Pierre Thomas is averaging four yards a pop. Jimmy Graham has become Brees’favorite receiver with 39 catches while Darren Sproles has 39 catches as well coming from the backfield but what this indicates is Brees may not be hitting his wide receivers often enough. The Saints defense is allowing 365.5 yards per game and 25.2 points while accumulating 14 sacks, four fumble recoveries, and three interceptions leaving them with a minus seven turnover differential. Roman Harper leads the Saints in tackles with 39 followed by Malcolm Jenkins with 31 but Jonathan Vilma has missed action with injuries and Jo-Lonn Dunbar is emerging as a play maker. It’s been a rough ride this season for the Indianapolis Colts as they are one of three teams who haven’t won a game. While Peyton Manning may or may not make it back this season more than likely this will put an end to the Colts string of years making the playoffs. Curtis Painter is filling in at QB and he has completed 54.9 percent of his passes and has five touchdowns and just one interception but he hasn’t been overly effective. Joseph Addai is back in the backfield and he’s the best blocker of the Colts’ backs and he’s also averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Pierre Garcon and Reggie Wayne each have 27 catches with Garcon having four for touchdowns while Dallas Clark has 20 catches. The Indianapolis defense is allowing 392.5 yards and 27.2 points per game ranking near the bottom, a place not too unfamiliar to them but a thing where Manning has been able to compensate. Pat Angerer has 73 tackles, Kavell Conner has 58, and Antoine Bethea has 47 to lead Indy. This game should be a big win for the Saints, but the Colts are starting to play better as a team, so anything can happen.
