NFL Preview: San Diego Chargers vs. New York Jets
NFL Preview: San Diego Chargers vs. New York Jets

Head coach Rex Ryan is already involved in a war of words that will add excitement to this game. For the latest odds on this game and the best NFL wagering options, open an account at online sportsbook bet Phoenix.

The New York Jets started the season with two wins and then lost their next three, all road games, but after ending the losing streak on Monday Night at home, Rex Ryan’s team faces a contender in the San Diego Chargers. Mark Sanchez has been ordinary at best at QB completing 56.1 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and five interceptions and being sacked 14 times. The running game has been surprisingly ineffective as defenses disregard the threat of the pass Leaving Shonn Greene with a 3.4 yards per carry average and LaDanian Tomlinson with a 3.3 yards per carry average.

Tight end Dustin Keller is the Jets leading receiver with 21 catches followed by Santonio Holmes with 20 and three touchdowns. The New York defense allows 332.8 yards per game while accumulating 17 sacks, nine fumble recoveries, and nine interceptions. Eric Smith is Gang Green’s leading tackler with 34 while Bart Scott and David Harris have 33 each. It will take the Jets’ best performance of the year to beat a very good Chargers team.

The San Diego Chargers uncharacteristically missed the playoffs last season but this year Norv Turner’s team looks focused on making a return to the playoffs. QB Philip Rivers is still a gunslinger and it’s been mistakes by him that have made the Chargers’ games closer than they needed to be as he has thrown seven interceptions to his six touchdowns while completing 67.2 percent of his passes. Ryan Mathews is showing the stuff that made him a first round draft choice and why he had such big expectations of him last season averaging 4.9 yards per carry while Mike Tolbert has been a nice compliment scoring two TD’s on the ground and catching 28 passes out of the backfield.

Vincent Jackson has 23 catches and three touchdowns and Antonio Gates has missed the last three games but coming off of the bye week both Jackson and Gates should be as healthy as they have been. The Chargers allow the fourth fewest yards per game in the NFL at 293.2 and just 18.5 points per game but they have sacked opposing QB’s just eight times, have one fumble recovery, and five interceptions all of which make their 4-1 record all that much more impressive. Takeo Spikes has 37 tackles, Donald Butler has 32, and Eric Weddle has 28 the lead the San Diego defense.

The winner of this game will be able to shut the other team up and take out their frustrations on the field.
