College Football Preview: Michigan vs. Purdue
College Football Preview: Michigan vs. Purdue

In a Big Ten battle the Michigan Wolverines look to get back on the winning track when they play the Purdue Boilermakers.

The top online sportsbook to bet on college football is Bet Phoenix as they cover all of the college football wagering odds and betting options.

The Michigan Wolverines enjoyed a bye week this past weekend, and perhaps that is just what Michigan needed after falling to their rival the Michigan State Spartans the week before 28-14. You can't talk Michigan football without bringing up Denard Robinson. Robinson struggled in his last outing against the Spartans as "shoelaces" threw for just 123 yards and one interception, while throwing for one score. Robinson has a name for himself not with his arm but with his incredible athletic gift at running the ball, and MSU was able to shut him down as the Michigan quarterback rushed for 42 yards on 18 attempts.

Unlike last season when the Michigan defense was their Achilles heel, the Wolverines are playing very good on defense this season, as the Wolverines are ranked eighth in the nation in scoring defense allowing just 14.7 points per game, although when Michigan has played the higher quality teams they have been scored on as the Spartans put up 28, the Wildcats scored 24, and Notre Dame put up 31 on the Wolverine defense.

The Purdue Boilermakers improved to 4-3 on the season this past weekend with a victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini. Caleb TerBush was under center for the Boilermakers, and the Purdue quarterback had a very nice day against the Illini defense as TerBush threw for 178 yards and two scores on the day. Purdue definitely doesn't jump out at you on the stat sheet in any particular category, but the Boilermakers are competing, and they are doing it the traditional way with a run first approach.

Purdue is ranked 26th in the nation in rushing offense averaging just under 200 yards per game, and while no one really looks at this Purdue ground attack as an unstoppable force the Boilermakers are efficient enough to control the clock and play keep away from the other team's offense. The Boilermakers are playing solid defense allowing 20 points per game, and if Purdue can contain Robinson and the Michigan ground attack this weekend the Boilermakers have a shot at the upset in Ann Arbor.

Michigan really needs to win this game and win big if they want to show the college football world they should be in the top 25 on a permanent basis.
