The PSU defense will be in for a test this weekend as Illinois quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase is one of the more dynamic signal callers in all of the Big Ten, and the running game of Illinois can be tough for anyone to stop. The Illinois Fighting Illini fell to 6-2 on the year as Illinois was upset by Purdue 21-14. Illinois started off the season playing tremendous ball, led by their quarterback Scheelhaase, but the wheels have started to fall off recently, and if Illinois has any shot this weekend against Penn State, the Illini will need to find some of that magic from earlier in the year. Illinois does bring a stout defense with them to Happy Valley as Ron Zook's defense is ranked 15th in the nation in points allowed, giving up just 18.1 per game this season. Illinois has not only one of the top rushing offenses in the Big Ten, but in the nation as a whole as the Illini are ranked 23rd on the ground gaining 199.3 yards per game. If the Illini can establish a ground attack early, and the defense can make some plays against McGloin the Illini have a shot here, but it will be tough sledding against a solid Penn State squad. This is a must win for two teams looking to make the bowl committee take notice.
