| College Football Preview: Marshall vs. UAB |
The top online sportsbook to bet on college football is Bet Phoenix as they cover all of the college football wagering odds and betting options. One of the worst teams in the nation the 1-6, 1-3 Alabama Birmingham Blazers stunned 3-4, 1-2 Central Florida last week at Legion Field 26-24. UAB, 118th in scoring and 95th in scoring defense, somehow some way beat the Knights while the Blazers' Week Nine opponent 3-5, 2-2 Marshall was thumped 63-28 by BCS' No. 17 Houston. UAB dumped Central Florida with tremendous defense midway through the game not conceding a point during the second and third quarter. Sophomore quarterback Jonathan Perry threw a touchdown strike to junior wide receiver Patrick Hearn to tie the game at seven before the Knights took a 14-7 lead heading to the second period. Perry hooked up with sophomore WR Nolen Smith to begin the scoring in the second as freshman placekicker Ty Long's 46-yard field goal at the first-half gun put the Blazers up 16-14. After neither team scored during the third, sophomore WR Jackie Williams' four-yard trot to the end zone made it 23-14 UAB 48 seconds into the fourth. Then after a pair of UCF scores, Long's 40-yard FG with 21 ticks left on the clock capped the Blazers' first win of the year. There's never too much shame in losing to a ranked team on the road; however in the Thundering Herd's case to lose 63-28 to the 7-0, 3-0 Cougars still hurts. Marshall had thoughts of hanging tough in a shootout, but three straight Houston scores to end the first half stifled those ideas. Scoring for the Herd early was junior WR Aaron Dobson on two beautifully thrown footballs by sophomore QB A.J. Graham who reached the end zone on Marshall's first scoring drive of the second half. Unfortunately the Cougs struck 33 seconds later to regain a three TD advantage. Down by double that margin the Thundering Herd scored once more on backup freshman QB Rakeem Cato's 8-yard pass to senior WR Wayne Bonner in the closing minutes of the game. UAB may be having a tough season, but if there is any week they rise to the occasion and have a good weekend it’s in this game against Marshall.
