On Thursday night in southern Florida, the Miami Hurricanes will host the Virginia Cavaliers in an ACC conference tilt. Both schools come into the contest sporting 4-3 overall records. In their most recent contests, Miami handed Georgia Tech it's second loss of the season, a game the Hurricanes won 24-7. Virginia was handed its third loss of the season last week by North Carolina State, a 28-14 defeat. The Miami Hurricanes have come a long way from the season opening contest that was nationally televised against Maryland on Labor Day. First year coach Al Golden has his squad evolving and progressing into a good football team. The progress was evident on Saturday when the Hurricanes dominated a talented Georgia Tech team. Miami held Georgia Tech's high powered offense to just 7 points and 211 yards of total offense, well below the Yellow Jackets average of 517 per game. Defense was the name of the game for the Hurricanes against Georgia Tech, and Mike James and Lamar Miller each added a rushing touchdown to bolster the offense. After handing Georgia Tech its first loss of the season two weeks ago, Virginia got grounded by North Carolina State last week. The Cavaliers offense sputtered and gained just 249 yards of total offense. Turnovers plagued the Hoos, coming mainly from the two-man platoon at quarterback of Michael Rocco and David Watford. Watford threw three interceptions and neither quarterback was able to throw for more than 90 yards. Virginia is 1-5 ATS this season. Miami is 4-2 SU in its last six games. The total has gone under in Virginia's last five games. The total has gone under in five of the last seven Miami home games. This game could be closer than the experts think as two teams from the ACC face off on the field under the prime time lights.
