Akron has already had their fair share of disappointment this season but the loss to Central Michigan was especially painful. Left for dead the Zips scored a touchdown with no time left and failed to convert a two point try instead of kicking the PAT to head to overtime. That was the second failed two point conversion of the game as Akron didn’t play a bad game otherwise. The Zips totaled 407 yards but didn’t find any offensive rhythm until late even though the numbers say the running and passing games did well. Of the team’s 138 rushing yards Jawon Chisholm rambled for 130 yards on just 19 carries and a touchdown that covered 38 yards.

Quarterback Clayton Moore finished the game strong going 25 of 40 for 228 with a pair of TD passes in the final three minutes to go along with an interception. Marquelo Suel was the receiving star with eleven catches for 114 yards and both touchdowns with the rest of the team hauling down 15 balls. The defense also played well by holding the Chippewas to 383 yards and only 5 of 15 on third down.

Miami (Ohio) has been playing their best football of the season over the past month with victories in three of the last four after shutting down Buffalo. The Redhawks dominated the Bulls after the first quarter by outscoring their conference rivals 20-0. Miami finished the contest with 441 yards while surviving a pair of turnovers and some sloppy early play. The Redhawks rushing attack was basically a two man show with Tyrone Jones leading the way with 58 yards on 16 carries. Quarterback Zac Dysert added 39 yards on six tries but it was his passing that carried the offense.

Dysert had a near perfect performance completing 20 of 25 passes for 313 yards with five touchdowns against a lone interception with one scoring toss covering 60 yards. Dawan Scott caught the long TD pass and finished with 141 yards on only three receptions. After allowing 13 first quarter points the Miami (Ohio) defense pitched a shutout and gave up 358 yards overall while forcing three turnovers.

This game may not get all the headlines, but it will be one of the most entertaining games of Thursday night.
