Michigan State Spartans vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers
Michigan State Spartans vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

Michigan State could not keep their good run alive as they were soundly beaten by Nebraska last week. They hope for better luck this week against Minnesota.

The Spartans were flying high after their huge win against the Buckeyes two weeks ago, however that momentum didn't carry over to last Saturday as MSU got completely blown out of Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, losing to the Huskers 24-3. Kirk Cousins has been one of the top quarterbacks in the Big Ten all season long, but Nebraska was able to completely shut down the senior signal caller of the Spartans as Cousins threw for 86 yards and one interception. The Spartan ground attack was also held in check by the Blackshirts as MSU rushed for just 101 yards on the day.

Don't let this past week fool you however; MSU was in a tough spot in Lincoln after coming off a huge win over the undefeated Badgers on a hail mary, then having to travel to Lincoln to face the Huskers. I expect to see a much better performance this weekend against the Gophers.

Minnesota came into this past weekend's matchup with their rival the Iowa Hawkeyes having just won one game all season, and never really competing with their Big Ten conference foes. Minnesota showed everyone that in a rivalry game; never underestimate the home team, especially when there is a trophy of a pig at stake. Minnesota was outgained by the Hawkeyes on the day, but some last minute heroics, including an onside kick recovery spurred the Golden Gophers on to the win against their rival Hawkeyes. Like I said above about how the Spartans are better than they played this past week, well the Gophers aren't as good as they played this past week.

Minnesota always plays the Hawkeyes tough, and Minnesota caught Iowa in a rebuilding year. Minnesota is definitely in a tough spot this week traveling to East Lansing against a Spartan team out to prove to everyone they are better than their showing against the Huskers.

The Spartans cannot afford to look past Minnesota and get caught napping. Instead they need to get a big win and get back into the hunt for the Big Ten title.
