| Tuesday Night Football: Northern Illinois vs. Bowling Green |
Bet Phoenix has all off the latest odds on this game and all of the college football betting action for week 11. Northern Illinois scored early and often and late and often and…you get the picture as the first two times the Huskies touched the ball resulted in kick returns for scores while the offense was unstoppable in a game they needed to be. When the smoke had cleared NIU had racked up 532 yards and 27 first downs in a game that had a flag football feel to it. The Huskies were able to run and throw with minimal resistance with Chandler Harnish pacing the rushing attack with 133 yards on 16 carries while Jasmine Hopkins added 72 yards on eleven totes and a touchdown. Harnish did ample damage with his arm as well with 266 yards on a 17 of 26 performance with six touchdowns against no interceptions. Nathan Palmer led the team with four catches for 120 yards with three going for scores. As good as the offense and special teams were, the defense struggled allowing 589 yards as Toledo had no problem moving the ball and scoring. Bowling Green needed a win versus Kent State to put themselves in position for a Bowl berth but those hopes were severely damaged as their offense stumbled in to a tough Golden Flashes defense. The disappointing part was that Bowling Green moved the ball with 445 yards and 24 first downs but as is usually the case when teams move the chains and don’t score, mistakes killed them. The Falcons lost a pair of fumbles and tossed two interceptions and minus two of those and the outcome probably would have been different. A viable running game and balanced attack would have helped as well but BGSU couldn’t penetrate the front seven of the Golden Flashes with the rush with Jamal Martin running for 50 yards on 18 carries. That meant relying on the passing of Matt Schilz which really isn’t a bad option as he completed 29 of 49 for 400 yards with a touchdown but also a pair of picks. The defense did a reasonable job by limiting Kent State to 319 yards and forcing two fumbles but the offense gave up a fumble return for seven and hurt this unit with constant miscues. This game will be closer than the experts think as two very determined teams go toe-to-toe in a battle for a hard fought victory.
