Kansas State vs. Texas A&M
Kansas State vs. Texas A&M

The Kansas State Wildcats are off two very tough losses and hope to turn it around this week against the Aggies of Texas A&M.

Texas A&M gave Oklahoma all they could handle for 30 minutes with the Sooners holding a 13-10 lead at the half but OU gave the Aggies more than they could handle in a 28-0 third quarter blitz to ice the game. At the final gun Texas A&M had plenty of yardage and plenty of mistakes to offset the good. The Aggies piled up 527 yards but were done in by four turnovers and seven penalties. A&M were successful when running the ball with almost 150 yards on 29 carries for over five yards per chance but that part of the game disappeared when Oklahoma jumped out to a 41-10 lead. Christine Michael paced the rushing attack with 88 yards on 17 totes but he had no help otherwise. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw for big yards but had accuracy issues and made too many mistakes. Tannehill was 32 of 63 for 379 yards with a pair of score and three killer interceptions. Overall the Aggies defense held the Sooners to 404 yards but couldn’t overcome the giveaways and Oklahoma’s ability to make plays when needed.

After starting the season at 7-0 the Wildcats have dropped back to back games and now have a tenuous grip on their national ranking. The positive was the Wildcats going toe to toe with the vaunted Oklahoma State offense but the downside was the defense couldn’t get that one stop. K-State had no trouble doing whatever they chose on offense with a balanced attack that produced 507 yards with 27 first downs and a 9 of 18 effort on third down. The Wildcats ability to pound the front seven of the Cowboys led to 276 yards and nearly 5 ½ yard average and almost 41 minutes of possession. Collin Klein did the heavy lifting with 144 yards on 29 tries with three visits to the end zone.

Tyler Lockett chipped in with 84 yards on three carries while catching three passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. Klein was produced with his arm as well as his legs going 22 of 38 for 231 yards with a TD and a pick. The KSU defense gave up 575 yards but did force four turnovers but never stopped Brandon Weeden who totaled over 500 passing yards.

The Aggies are in prime position to take advantage of a Wildcat team that is headed in the worng direction and can’t seem to get a win.
