Navy finally got back in the win column and did it with a bang with an overpowering display of offense and some not too shabby defense versus a stunned Troy. The Midshipmen offense was at it’s best with 517 yards and 27 first downs with mistake free football on both sides of the ball. The option was operating like a well oiled machine with 380 rushing yards on 64 carries for an impressive six yard average.

Aaron Santiago and Alexander Teich combined for 151 yards on 18 carries but the Middies received contributions from 14 runners overall. Quarterback Kris Proctor ran for 37 yards and a pair of touchdowns but had a far more productive game through the air albeit in limited opportunities. Proctor completed 4 of 6 throws for 127 yards with a touchdown and no picks. The Middies defense gave up 330 yards but were most impressive against Corey Robinson and a good passing attack, limiting the Trojans to only 212 yards.

Southern Methodists got back on the winning track against Tulane after suffering consecutive defeats. The Mustangs jumped all over the Green Wave with an all around dominating first half performance that saw SMU take a 31-0 lead in to the half. The third quarter got a bit dicey with Tulane outscoring Southern Methodist 24-7 before order was restored. The Mustangs did most of their damage in the first half and finished with 453 yards with one lost fumble that ended up in their own end zone in the 3 rd quarter but otherwise were mistake free.

The rushing attack was the steady and dependable Zach Line who ran for 143 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. Quarterback JJ McDermott had an explosive day under center with 29 completions on 41 attempts for 322 yards with three touchdowns and no turnovers. The Southern Methodist defense allowed 271 yards while recovering a pair of fumbles and only giving up 17 points against an inferior opponent.

This is a tale of two teams headed in opposite directions, and it will be interesting to see what team comes out on top.
