TCU Horned Frogs vs. Boise State Broncos
TCU Horned Frogs vs. Boise State Broncos

A couple of years ago this would have been a dream matchup as these two teams were Cinderella’s trying to go to the national title game.

Texas Christian is trying to make their stay in the national rankings permanent as they look for win number five in a row after downing a stubborn Wyoming squad in Laramie. The scoreboard was perhaps a bit closer than the Horned Frogs had hoped but the box score told of a more dominating performance from the visitors who racked up over 600 yards of offense and 28 first downs while facing just seven third down situations for the entire game. TCU was able to both run and pass but their work on the ground was the more impressive with 390 rushing yards and over eight yard average. The rush was a three man ground assault with Waymon James (12-181), Ed Wesley (19-120) and Matthew Tucker (12-90) having their way with the latter two scoring twice each.

Casey Pachall had an accurate and productive night under center going 17 of 24 for 227 yards with an interception while spreading the ball around to nine different receivers. The Texas Christian defense held the Cowboys to 353 yards which is really impressive considering their own offense had five giveaways.

There are some high expectations when a team wins by 27 points and it’s considered a mediocre performance but that’s exactly where Boise State finds themselves after the road victory at Nevada Las Vegas. It’s been the same story for the Broncos year after year as this team is always on the outside looking in at the NC and needs to win convincingly on a weekly basis. The final score says Boise accomplished their goal but it wasn’t the best effort we’ve seen with the Broncos leading the Rebels 21-14 at the half. The Broncos totaled 416 yards with a nice mix of the run and pass. The rushing attack produced 185 yards and over 5 yards per carry with DJ Harper pacing the run game with 109 yards on 13 carries with Drew Wright chipping in with another 47 yards with both reaching the end zone once.

Quarterback Kellen Moore was productive as usual with a quiet 219 yards on 19 of 31 passing with five touchdowns and no interceptions. The Broncos defense gave up 319 yards which was solid enough as this unit shut down UNLV over the final 30 minutes.

With Boise making a run at an undefeated season, it will be up to TCU to try and slow them down in this great game.
