| Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs |
Two long-time AFC West rivals face off this Sunday when the Denver Broncos visit Arrowhead Stadium to take on the host Kansas City Chiefs. The early NFL odds favor the Chiefs by -7 points in the game, which is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 PM. The latest sports betting odds on this game and every game in the NFL, can be found at the online sportsbook Bet Phoenix. With a scaled-back playbook and an emphasis on more roll-out, option-style schemes as opposed to the traditional pocket passing attack, Denver's Tim Tebow may have found his niche, at least for one week, as the Broncos rebounded from the previous week's 45-10 loss to Detroit in a convincing 38-24 win over AFC West rival Oakland this past Sunday, scoring 31 points in the second half. The victory not only upped Denver's record to 3-5, it also sent the division into a logjam at the top, with Kansas City, Oakland and San Diego tied with 4-4 marks. Tebow had plenty of help from his teammates, especially veteran RB Willis McGahee, who gained 163 yards on 20 carries and 2 TDs and had the NFL's most rushing yards in week 9. Tebow's passing numbers weren't dazzling (10 of 21, 124 yards, 2 TDs), but, as to be expected, when he took off running, he was more than effective. Tebow carried 12 times for 118 yards, and the tandem of Tebow and McGahee, with both gaining over 100 yards, was just the fifth QB/RB duo to each surpass the century mark in the same game in NFL history. WR Eddie Royal was also a key contributor, hauling in a 26-yard TD pass from Tebow as well as returning a punt 85 yards for a score. Denver's defense is still being tweaked, but one encouraging sign came from DE Elvis Dumervil, who has been plagued by injuries the past two seasons. He recorded his first sack since 2009. Recently signed S Chris Harris, waived by the Bears last week, made his presence known in a big way, recording 11 tackles and nabbing an interception in his first game in a Bronco uniform. Veteran Champ Bailey picked off Carson Palmer twice. After an 0-3 start, the defending AFC West champion Kansas City Chiefs looked like a semi-pro team instead of an elite NFL squad. With their defense getting absolutely steamrolled in those first 3 contests, they somehow turned it around and won 4 straight to become contenders once more. However, this past Sunday, the defense collapsed once more, and when the dust had settled, KC's opponent, the win-less Miami Dolphins, were without a win no longer, handing the Chiefs their scalps, 31-3. The Chiefs scored first, taking a 3-0 lead on a Ryan Succop field goal on their first possession, but then the Dolphins woke up, or the Chiefs fell asleep. Miami unleashed a season-long's frustration, scoring the next 31 points, led by QB Matt Moore, who hit on 17 of 23 passes for 244 yards and 3 TDs. Anthony Fasano caught only 2 passes in the game, but both went for scores. Brandon Marshall caught the other scoring toss, while RB Reggie Bush had his second consecutive good game, gaining 92 yards on 13 carries. The no-name Miami defense turned in its best performance of 2011. Miami sacked KC QB Matt Cassel 5 times and recorded 9 QB hits, keeping Cassel in survival mode nearly the entire game. LBs Kevin Burnett and Karlos Dansby were especially active, combining for 21 tackles and 5 tackles for loss. The pass rush was so effective that the injury-depleted Dolphin secondary, a concern before the game, had little to worry about. Every game that Tim Tebow starts receives increased media attention, and for a young, inexperienced QB, the pressure must be frightening. However, Tebow appears to be well-equipped to deal with the added scrutiny, and his teammates all proclaim to "have his back." It's no secret that Denver coach John Fox isn't a fan of inexperienced signal-callers, but as long as Tebow continues to either win games, or at least give his team a chance to win, Fox has no choice. If this were a legitimate contending AFC squad, it might be different, but the best course of action seems to be to let them all mature together. This game is pivotal for both teams as they look to make their mark in the division and winning this game could make all the difference in deciding who will make the playoffs.
