Oklahoma State jumped on Texas Tech early and often and never let up in an impressive display on both sides of the ball. A 21-0 first quarter lead turned in to a 49-0 bulge heading in to the locker room as the Cowboys amassed 637 yards and 31 first downs. OSU totaled 183 yards on the ground in a two man rushing attack with Hershel Sims leading the way with 109 yards on 13 carries while Joseph Randle adding another 78 yards on 13 totes with three trips to the end zone. The Cowboys could have kept the ball on the ground and won handily but turned to the passing of Brandon Weeden who had about as perfect a game as possible under center, completing 31 of 37 throws for 423 yards with five touchdowns with two covering 48 yards and 66 yards.

While the Oklahoma State offense gets most of the headlines the defense was just as impressive by limiting the Red Raiders to 270 yards and forcing three turnovers with two fumbles taken back for scores.

Iowa State has a shot at securing a spot in the postseason but didn’t look like a Bowl candidate versus a struggling Kansas squad. The Cyclones did just enough to get the win on the offensive side of the football while relying mostly on a strong defensive effort to carry the day. The box score clearly favored Iowa State although the results on the scoreboard told of a much closer game.

The Cyclones finished with 426 yards with three giveaways hurting them. The rushing attack which has been their calling card on the year continued to produce with over 250 yards and five yard average with Jared Barnett doing the heavy with 125 yards on 22 carries. ISU went to the air probably more than they felt comfortable doing with some mixed results. Barnett couldn’t match his running talent with his arm as he went 16 of 30 for 175 yards with an interception with some drops and missed throws. The Cyclones defense made the points given to them work because the Jayhawks only had 301 yards and went just 4 of 14 on third down.

This may not be an upset in the making but it will be great to watch a prime time game with a top ranked BCS caliber club in action.
