Cincinnati’s drive to the Big East ran in to a roadblock that goes by the name of West Virginia. The Bearcats made one too many mistakes and lost Zach Collaros after just eleven passes to an ankle injury. Even with limited production by their star quarterback Cincinnati still managed 404 yards but weren’t good on third down, converting just 4 of 14 chances. The rushing attack did pick up some of the load with 190 yards and just under six yards per carry Isaiah Pead doing most of the damage with 113 yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns. Backup QB Munchie Legaux proved to be an adequate dual threat with 77 yards on nine totes with a score but he did have some trouble in the passing game, going 10 of 21 for 144 yards with an interception. Collaros (7-11/70) looked to be on his game and is listed as questionable for Saturday. The Bearcats defense put forth a winnable effort, allowing 404 yards and limiting the Mountaineers 17 points with seven coming on a fumble return. Special teams and defense paved the way to Rutgers win over Army in a game far closer than the final score indicates. Once again the Scarlet Knights were ordinary on offense with only 314 yards with a pair of interceptions. The rushing attack was adequate with around 120 yards and 4 ½ yards per tote with Jeremy Deering (14-64) doing most of the work with Jawan Jamison getting the accolades with his 56 yard scoring jaunt with under two minutes remaining to seal the victory. Chas Dodd was back under center and had a mixed afternoon, completing 17 of 27 throws for 196 yards with a pair of touchdowns and two costly interceptions. Mohamed Sanu was the receiver of choice with 13 catches for 129 yards with the rest of the team managing only four receptions. Rutgers was stingy on defense by limiting Army to 314 yards and the special teams returned a blocked punt 32 yards for the game winning score. This game will be interesting and will definitely alter the college football landscape as these two teams jockey for position and a bowl game.
