Who would have guessed that Cal would be the team coming in with all sorts of momentum while the Cardinal come in hardly looking like the super heavyweight we thought they were. Okay so maybe Stanford's dreams of a BCS Bowl aren't shot, but in today's what have you done for me lately society that we live in, it's hard to forget about the Cardinal again sleepwalking during the first quarter. All year that's been one of Stanford's biggest crutches. With as good of an offensive line and arguably the most talented college quarterback ever in senior Andrew Luck, the Cardinal trailed Oregon 8-0 after the first quarter.

1:09 into the second period saw Luck hook up with senior wide receiver Griff Whalen from 16 yards away, but the ensuing extra point was pulled wide of the upright. The Ducks responded 1:02 later to go ahead 15-6 before junior placekicker Eric Whitaker atoned for his missed XP with a successful 37-yard field goal. However with Luck's 13-yard touchdown to Whalen for the second time in the game, Stanford crept within six points at the break. Too bad Oregon received the opening kickoff and quickly made it a two-score lead again. Then the Ducks lit up the scoreboard once more before Luck found senior running back Jeremy Stewart nearing the end of the third quarter. Stewart negotiated his way to the goal line 5:23 into the fourth but that was the final time the Cardinal would strike against Oregon who scored twice more for good measure.

Licking their chops in Berkeley were the Bears who must have loved seeing Stanford lose the ball five times against the Ducks. For California that's been their biggest bugaboo turning the football over. Against 2-8, 2-5 Oregon State the Golden Bears forced three turnovers while junior QB Zach Maynard threw one pick for Cal's only TO last Saturday. After the Beavers got on the scoreboard, Maynard hooked up with senior WR Michael Calvin for a TD and then ran one in. Another OSU score at the end of the second period cut the deficit to eight but junior RB Isi Sofele's 20-yard run (had a career-high 190 rushing yards) 4:49 into the second half and senior PK Georgio Tavecchio's 32-yard boot were the only points put up by both sides after halftime.

Andrew Luck will be ready to get his team back into the win column against an over matched Cal team that is ripe for the picking.
