The Cavaliers have been a pleasant surprise this season, and with some victories down the stretch could have an opportunity to play in the ACC Championship game. But to get to that point, the Cavs must take care of business against a rejuvenated Florida State team, a daunting task. The Cavaliers got their seventh win of the season last week against Duke, 31-21. Duke is simply a bad team that was overmatched from the start and the Hoos wore down the Blue Devils and built a ten point lead in the fourth quarter and held on. The Cavaliers have established a solid rushing attack and is not afraid to play between the tackles with teams. The recipe has worked well for Virginia, who has an opportunity to win nine games this season. Florida State has finally started playing like the team that many of us thought they were going to be this season. After losing three straight, the Seminoles have rebounded with five straight wins. Last week, FSU beat Miami 23-19 in a hardly fought contest. The Seminoles were outgained 383 to 259 by the Hurricanes, but capitalized on three Miami turnovers to build a lead. The win was a bit ugly, but in a rivalry game, you take a victory any way you can. I was more impressed that Florida State did not fold down the stretch when Miami was orchestrating a comeback. The ‘Noles hung tough and got a big win to improve their record to 7-3, and are looking at an opportunity to play in a solid bowl game. Virginia really needs this win if they want to stay in the race for the ACC Coastal division, and that could be hard to do.
