Miami’s postseason future has come down to the final weeks of the season after a mistake filled loss to Florida State. Two late touchdowns made the score closer than the game really was as the Hurricanes turned the ball over three times, committed nine penalties and gave up a punt return for six. Miami totaled 383 yards with an average looking ground game that totaled 140 yards for four yards per pop. Lamar Miller paced the backfield with 92 yards on 22 carries but the Hurricanes turned to the passing of Jacory Harris to move the chains and put points on the scoreboard. Harris completed 20 of 31 throws for a touchdown and an interception. Eight players had receptions but the Canes didn’t threaten until a touchdown with just under 1 ½ minutes left made things a bit uncomfortable for the Seminoles. The Miami defense deserved a better fate after giving up only 259 yards and 13 first downs and 13 points. South Florida began the season 4-0 and looked like the king of the Big East but four consecutive defeats left the Bulls searching for answers. The answer was facing Syracuse as strong performances on both sides of the ball turned a seven point halftime margin in to an easy win. The Bulls totaled 490 yards and 27 first downs but were sloppy with ten penalties for 84 yards. USF was balanced on the attack with both a strong rushing and passing game going for them. The ground game produced 236 yards for a nice 5 ½ yard average with dual threat quarterback BJ Daniels accounting for 117 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown while Demetrius Murray added 79 yards and two more TD’s. Daniels was just as strong in the passing game with 254 yards while completing 23 of 34 throws. The Bulls defense gave up 405 yards but made Syracuse drive the field to score while eliminating big plays. This game will be very close and it should be one of the most entertaining games to watch this weekend in college football.
