Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Cincinnati Bengals are quickly on the path to becoming contenders in the AFC North and a win against the Baltimore Ravens could make that happen now.

The latest odds for this exciting NFL game and all of the great wagering action on the gridiron can be found at Bet Phoenix.

The Bengals travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens in an AFC North match-up. The north division is quite competitive this season with the Ravens and Bengals tied for second in the division and both holding wild card playoff berths were the season to end today.

This game will be a huge test for the Bengals as they try to prove they are capable of beating good teams. They lost their previous game to the Steelers 24-17 at home last Sunday. A win for the Bengals against the Ravens would be proof that they are serious contenders for the playoffs, and perhaps a run at a Super Bowl title.

For Cincy, they are going to have to rely on the duo of Andy Dalton and AJ Green. The two rookies have been catalysts for the offense, with the explosive Green repeatedly making big catches against double coverage. Dalton is playing like a veteran at the quarterback position, and has the most TD passes for a quarterback at this point in the season for a rookie in NFL history and is a definite contender for NFL offensive rookie of the year.

Baltimore is going to need Joe Flacco to step it up and play a good game for more than just one week. He followed his great comeback win against Pittsburgh by losing to the previously 2-6 Seattle Seahawks. Playing down to the competition has been a problem for the Ravens this season, losing to Jacksonville as well and barely defeating the Arizona Cardinals.

The running game needs to get going for the Baltimore offense to have a sense of balance. Ray Rice had his fewest carries in years last week in Seattle. He needs more than 7 touches in order to get going and be the dominating force on the ground that he is known to be.

On defense, the Bengals are going to rely on their overpowering front 7 and opportunistic secondary to contain Rice and Co. However, the Bengals will be missing one of their better players as cornerback Leon Hall has been lost for the season due to injury. As a unit, they still rank in the top five in the NFL and are still dangerous to have to face.

The Ravens defense has long been its strength and that probably won't change on Sunday. Going up against a rookie quarterback, linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed will be looking to force some mistakes. One of the strengths of the Baltimore defense is their ability to switch up coverages and confuse quarterbacks.

Not making that key mistake is going to be of utmost importance for Andy Dalton. This is his first career big game on the road. Look for running back Cedric Benson to get carries and perhaps a steady dose of Bernard Scott to take the pressure off of Dalton. Benson is a workhorse who can easily handle 20+ carries in a game and gets stronger as the game continues. Ironically, if the Bengals are as good as their record indicates, the Ravens should win this game. Not only is this a home game for the Ravens, but they do play to the level of their competition. If the Bengals are good, the Ravens should bring their A game. If the Bengals are really just a pretender in the AFC, they should get a win. That sounds odd, but both teams have had unusual seasons.

Going into the game on Sunday, the Ravens are a 7 point favorite against the Bengals according to the early football odds. It seems as if those who are betting on the game think that the Ravens should be able to pull out a winnable game at home this time.

This game is important for both teams and now it looks as though Ray Lewis will not play in this game. That is a blow to the Ravens defense; however on the flip side rookie standout wide receiver AJ Green may also miss this game.

This will be the time for one of these teams to step up and prove that they can play with the elite teams in the NFL.
