| West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh Panthers |
The latest college football odds on this game and all of the other action for week 13 can be found at online sportsbook Bet Phoenix. Pittsburgh was in a must win situation against Louisville and responded with a big win over the Cardinals behind strong defense and an offense that made plays when the opportunity was there. The Panthers gained 396 yards and were balanced between the run and pass with no penalties and a pair of lost fumbles. The rushing attack produced 200 yards and just under 4 ½ yards per carry with a productive two man game doing most of the work. Zach Brown led the way with 86 yards on 15 carries with Isaac Bennett following with 69 yards on 13 totes with a one yard TD run. Tino Sunseri did just what the team needed and that’s make a few throws and avoid mistakes. Mission accomplished as Sunseri completed 16 of 22 for 196 yards with a 17 yard scoring strike. The story of the game was the Pitt defense that held the Cardinals to 280 yards and 3 of 14 on third down with a chunk of Louisville’s yardage coming on a last minute scoring drive. West Virginia received a clutch performance on both sides of the ball in a win over Cincinnati that kept the Mountaineer’s Big East title hopes alive. WVU had a solid offensive game on paper with 404 yards but they were only 5 of 16 on third down and were whistled for 14 penalties and lost a fumble. The attack was completely one dimensional with les than 50 rushing yards meaning the passing of quarterback Geno Smith was the lone source of production. Smith responded with 372 yards on 29 of 43 with no int4erceptions and a 17 yard touchdown toss. Tavon Austin 9-126) and Stedman Bailey (6-104) were responsible for more than half of the team’s receptions and over 2/3 of the yardage with Bailey hauling in a TD pass. Kudos have to go out to the defensive side of the football, allowing 404 yards and 4 of 15 on third down conversions. This unit recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass and held the Bearcats to 24 minutes of possession and undoubtedly benefited from the absence of Zach Collaros who broke his fibula. Regardless of the records, the backyard brawl is always an entertaining game between two teams that just do not like each other.
