| NFL Thanksgiving Football: Packers vs. Lions |
The latest odds for this game and all of the great games in the NFL this weekend can be found at the top rated online sportsbook, Bet Phoenix. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will arrive at Detroit's Ford Field on Thursday, November 24, for a Thanksgiving battle with the resurgent Lions. For Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and the rest of the Honolulu Blue and Silver, beating the Packers would get them one giant step closer to a well-deserved post-season berth. This season, nine different teams have tried what Detroit will attempt to do this week - stop Rodgers from imposing his will on opponents' defenses. A tall task, but one the Lions intend to produce successfully. Detroit has had success against Green Bay, in recent memory. Last season, the Lions defeated the Packers at Ford Field in dramatic fashion, knocking Rodgers out of the game with a concussion-inducing hit by Landon Johnson. This time around, they know it will be much different. The Packers are healthy, improved and confident. They've faced, and overcome, many of the situations which had plagued them last year. Rodgers is playing on a level far above the realm of every other quarterback in the league. The defense is not up to where many thought they would be, but they have held opponents to 25 touchdowns, as nearly half of the Packers' 44 total end zone strikes. The Lions' defense will need to maintain solid pressure on the Packers' offensive backfield. Ndamukong Suh and Kyle VandenBosch will, undoubtedly, be on the receiving end of multiple double teams, leaving much of the dirty work to Cliff Avril and Corey Williams. Avril, especially, will need to have a big day, keeping his presence in Rodgers' face at all times. Offensively, if the Lions hope to have any decent chance of pulling out a victory, quarterback Matthew Stafford will need to produce his most successful performance of the season. The Packers' defense has weaknesses which must be exploited. They give up a decent amount of first downs and have allowed a fair share of offensive yardage. What they have not done, however, is allowed a lot of scoring chances. Detroit will have to strike fast, hard and often, as to give their defense some breathing room. In a shootout of monumental proportions, wide receivers Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson and Titus Young would be well-served to get as much space between them and the Packers' secondary as possible. Green Bay cornerbacks have found the uncanny ability to give up catches without allowing scores, making them an amusing enigma. Detroit's sizeable receivers have to make the "jump ball" a priority. In one of the most anticipated games in Lions' history, a ball-slinging, seismic activity-inducing hit spree is an almost certainty. The Lions are much improved, but so are the Packers. Look for a wire-to-wire game of exciting, big plays. The Packers, however, look to be more than the Lions can handle and should pull away with the victory. This has the potential to be the best game of the day as these teams should put up an aerial attack and a great show as they go toe-to-toe on turkey day. The latest odds for this game have the Packers favored by seven points, but this is subject to change as there will be plenty of people betting on the big game.
