The No. 9 in the BCS Oregon Ducks host the inaugural Pacific-12 Conference Championship Game on Friday, Dec. 2, in Eugene against the 6-6, 5-4 UCLA Bruins. 10-2, 7-2 Oregon bounced back in a big way from their second loss two weekends ago to 10-2, 7-2 Southern California by manhandling 3-9, 3-6 Oregon State 49-21. The Ducks scored right away on LaMichael James' one-yard touchdown run, but the Beavers squared the score to begin the second period. Unfortunately for OSU, Oregon scored the next five TDs of the game largely due to junior quarterback Darron Thomas' arm. Freshman running back De'Anthony Thomas, senior tight end David Paulson, freshman TE Colt Lyerla and junior RB Kenjon Barner, who ran one in too to put the Ducks on top of the Beavs 42-7, were on the receiving end of Thomas' TDs. Freshman RB Ayele Forde wrapped up the scoring for home team Oregon from eight yards away. The Ducks gained 670 yards and had 38 first downs. UCLA conceded 572 yards and 25 first downs in a 50-0 loss to the Trojans last Saturday. The statistics didn't say enough to how badly the Bruins were beaten up by USC who only punted twice and averaged about nine yards a play. UCLA's junior QB Kevin Prince nearly led the Bruins down the field on their first offensive possession to answer the Trojans' score, but Southern Cal stopped UCLA on fourth down at the one-yard line. Junior Johnathan Franklin was the featured RB against the Trojans gaining 55 yards on eight carries as senior WR Nelson Rosario was the only consistent receiving threat for the Bruins reeling in seven passes for 118 yards. Oregon needs this win to stay part of the BCS picture, and while the Bruins have plenty to play for they just don’t have the talent to keep up with the Ducks.
