Mall of America Field plays host this Sunday for a meeting between the visiting Denver Broncos and the home-standing Minnesota Vikings. Gametime is set for 1:00 PM, and the NFL's early football betting lines favor the Vikings by -1 1/2 points.

Now that he's led the Broncos to a 5-1 mark as a starter, some of Tim Tebow's critics are beginning to rethink their assessment of the former Heisman Trophy winner's ability to be a successful NFL quarterback. Granted, there is nothing orthodox about his style or mechanics, but in the NFL, as in all professional sports, the bottom line is the W-L ledger, and Tebow and Denver's results speak for themselves. Now the league's top-ranked rushing team (159.7 yards per game), Denver won their fourth straight this past Sunday at San Diego, 16-13, in overtime.

The longest game in the NFL this season wasn't decided until Matt Prater's 37-yard field goal with just 0:29 seconds remaining. San Diego's Nick Novak missed two field goals, including a 53-yarder that sailed wide right with 2:31 remaining in overtime as the Chargers (4-7) lost their sixth straight game, the franchise's worst winless streak since 2001.

Tebow set an NFL record with 22 rushing attempts, the most by a quarterback since at least 1950. His 67 yards gained contributed to Denver's 208 yards, with RB Willis McGahee's 117 yards on 23 carries topping the team. Tebow only attempted 18 passes, completing 9 for 143 yards, including an 18-yard TD to Eric Decker just before halftime. Tebow's passing numbers weren't awe-inspiring, but his QB rating for the afternoon (95.4) was considerably better than San Diego's Philip Rivers' (77.1), and everyone knows that Rivers is one of the league's most prolific passers.

Denver, traditionally one of the league's toughest defensive teams, lived up to their reputation versus San Diego, limiting the league's fifth-best passing offense and 17th-ranked rushing offense to 344 total yards. Admittedly, the offensive line of the Chargers has been decimated by injury, and the patchwork front is a work-in-progress, but DE Elvis Dumervil (2 sacks) and outstanding rookie LB Von Miller (1 sack), made Philip Rivers' afternoon one he'd just as soon forget. LB D.J. Williams also had a huge afternoon, recording 12 tackles.

Even without their RB Adrian Peterson (ankle sprain), Minnesota managed to hang with the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday until running out of gas and dropping their third straight, 24-14. To add to their season-long woes, the Vikings saw three other starters forced to leave the game with injuries, S Tyrell Johnson (hamstring), long-snapper Cullen Loeffler (back), and CB Asher Allen (shoulder). Demonstrating his versatility and willingness to help out the team, Allpro DE Jared Allen, second in the NFL in sacks, replaced Loeffler. Rookie QB Christian Ponder connected on 17 of 25 passes for 186 yards and one touchdown, while RB Toby Gerhart, filling in for Peterson, could only pick up 44 yards on 17 carries. WR Percy Harvin set an NFL record by returning a kickoff 104 yards and NOT reaching the end zone, instead getting tackled at the 3-yard line. In what may have turned out to be the game's pivotal series, Gerhart was then tackled for a two-yard loss on fourth-and-goal by the Falcon's Sean Weatherspoon.

Going against a run defense that's considerably stouter than San Diego's, Tebow and the Broncos may be forced to put the ball up more than in recent weeks, but trying to predict what a Tebow-led offense is going to do is futile. Peterson is listed as questionable for the Vikings, which drastically alters both their game plan and the opposition's defensive schemes. Next week, Denver hosts Chicago, another team struggling to adapt to a new QB, but also a team that can't afford any more losses. Minnesota travels to Detroit next Sunday, and the Lions, tied with the Bears in the NFC North, are facing the same "must-win" scenario if they have postseason plans.

The Broncos are playing great football and as long as Tim Tebow keeps winning the fan base will love him in Denver.
