This game is usually one of the marquee match-ups in the NFL, but not on this Sunday afternoon. In fact, it was supposed to be the Sunday Night game, but was pulled about a week ago without a second thought. It is not surprising given that the Colts are 0-11 heading into this game in a season that just keeps getting worse and worse. The major headline coming out of Indy this week is that the CBS affiliate in Fort Wayne decided not to show the Colts game this Sunday. Other than that, the Colts losing their 11th straight game was nothing to write home about, although they did manage to at least give the Panthers a game last week, losing 27-19, and having the ball with under 2 minutes to go with a chance to tie. If the Colts have any chance at winning this game, they need to control the ball as much as possible. NFL MVP candidate TomBrady has done a good job of shredding the Colts defense, but Manning has always been there to bail them out with big scoring plays. This week, it will be time for Dan Orlovsky to show what he is made of. He is starting this week in place of an ineffective Curtis Painter. He and Donald Brown will have to make sure that they move the chains on offense, but don't do so too quickly, or else Brady could make the game a blowout before halftime. This isn't a knock on the Colts, Brady has had several scoring drives of a minute or less this season. For New England, it will be all about Tom Brady. No matter how you feel about him, he does get the job done each week. He has completely torn apart the Chiefs and Eagles in the past two weeks, overcoming slow starts each week to throw for over 300 yards and leading his team to 30 or more points in each game. It will be awhile before he faces major competition, so he might just find his groove again before the playoffs. Wes Welker continues to dominate the league and often compete for the most NFL receiving yards each weekend. He had 8 catches for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Eagles last week, and already has over 1100 yards receiving this season. Although his pace has slowed, he should still end up leading the league in yards assuming that Brady keeps targeting him like he has. It has been a special season indeed for Welker. Which running back sees a lot of carries this week for New England? Will it be the Law Firm, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, or maybe it will be a little bit of Danny Woodhead mixed in with Kevin Faulk? Opposing defenses never really know who will be coming at them, so that will be just another headache for the Colts to have to try and figure out. While this game will most likely be a win, or at least on paper it should be a win, for the Patriots, they should not get too confident. They have to go to Washington next week and play a Redskins team that has become a little more consistent with the re-emergence of Rex Grossman at quarterback, and the return of Santana Moss. As for the Colts, they probably don't want to know who they play next, as the season winds down. However, they do play Baltimore next week in another match-up that is usually a marquee game in the league. The betting public expects this game to be a blowout as the Pats are favored to win this game by 20.5 points according the early football lines, and it wouldn't be shocking to see the Pats cover that spread quite easily. This game could be a blowout, but the Patriots are notorious for failing to cover big spreads, so the Colts could actually cover this game.
