| NFL Week 14 Denver Broncos vs. Chicago Bears |
The latest odds for this game and all of the other exciting games in week 14 in the NFL can be found at the top rated sportsbook, Bet Phoenix. Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver plays host this Sunday afternoon for a scheduled 4:05 PM matchup between the visiting Chicago Bears and the Broncos. This game is of utmost importance to both teams in regards to the NFL postseason, and the early betting line favors the Broncos by -3 1/2 points. After a mid-season five game winning streak in which they'd appeared to establish themselves as one of the teams to beat in the NFC, the subsequent three weeks have been a whirlwind of activity for the Chicago Bears. First, QB Jay Cutler, enjoying his best professional season, went down with a broken thumb suffered as he attempted to make a tackle against San Diego. Cutler's replacement, Caleb Hanie, made his first career start the next week at Oakland, and the results were not encouraging, Hanie throwing three interceptions in a 25-20 loss. The next week, this past Sunday, at home against Kansas City, Hanie was even less effective, going just 11 for 24 for 133 yards and another three interceptions as the Bears lost their second straight, 10-3. The "L" was damaging to their playoff hopes, but potentially even more costly was the expected 2-to-4 week loss of offensive catalyst Matt Forte, who went down with a suspected MCL injury midway through the opening quarter. Forte, the fourth-year RB who'd started 50 consecutive games, was the NFL's third-leading rusher and provided a higher percentage of his team's offense than any other player in the league. His likely replacement, Marion Barber, isn't as versatile or as elusive, although there are few running backs as effective as the former Dallas Cowboy inside the five-yard line. As is their tradition, as long as Chicago has a defense that instills fear in opponents, the Bears will be competitive. Somehow they've managed to avoid the injuries that have gutted the offense, but having to be on the field excessively due to offensive ineptitude will eventually take a toll. But, with Urlacher, Briggs, Peppers, Idonije and Tillman lining up defensively, they can cover up a multitude of weaknesses. Tim Tebow is now 6-1 as Denver's starting QB, and with each victory, the naysayers grow quieter and quieter. Denver's most recent win, 35-32 on the road at Minnesota, improved their record to 7-5, their fifth straight victory, and combined with Oakland's loss to Miami, created a first-place tie atop the AFC West division. Tebow went 10 for 15 passing, good for 202 yards and two TDs, by far the best "traditional" performance of his brief career. RB Willis McGahee ran for 111 yards on 20 carries, while WR Denaryus Thomas hauled in four passes for an astounding 144 yards, a 36.0 average, and touchdowns of 21 and 41 yards. Denver, the NFL's top-ranked rushing team, collected 150 yards on the ground versus the Vikings. With a defensive tradition almost as heralded as Chicago's, the Broncos bent plenty against Minnesota, but turned in some clutch plays when they needed to. They intercepted Vikings rookie QB Christian Ponder twice, one of them resulting in a 16-yard return for a touchdown by LB Mario Haggan. Haggan's interception was the first of his nine-year career, and the veteran was starting only because standout rookie Von Miller was sidelined with an injured thumb. Miller is expected to play against Chicago. These two teams appear to be heading in opposite directions, with Chicago barely hanging on to postseason hopes, while Denver, with Tebow energizing both teammates and fans, has a boatload of momentum heading into the homestretch. The Broncos road won't be an easy one however, as they host the New England Patriots next week, followed by a road game at Buffalo before closing out the regular season at home against Kansas City. For the Bears, they host the unpredictable Seattle Seahawks next week, then finish up with road games at Green Bay and Minnesota. The Bears will be up to the challenge, but don’t be surprised if Tebow leads the Broncos to yet another win in the NFL.
