| NFL Week 14 Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Jets |
The latest odds for this game and all of the other exciting games in week 14 in the NFL can be found at the top rated sportsbook, Bet Phoenix. The New York Jets take on the visiting Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM, and according to the early betting line, the Jets are favored by -8 1/2 points. Very few NFL teams look forward to going into Chicago's legendary Soldier Field to take on the Bears, and even fewer come out with a victory, but that's exactly what the unpredictable KC Chiefs did this past Sunday, scoring all the points they needed on the final play of the first half as they topped the Bears 10-3, improving to 5-7 and keeping their playoff hopes alive. The critical play occurred on a 38-yard Hail Mary pass from QB Tyler Palko that was tippednot once, but twice by Bear defenders before somehow landing in KC WR Dexter McCluster's hands in the end zone. Adding to the improbable events of this contest, the touchdown was Kansas City's first in their last three games and snapped a four-game losing streak. Palko did little else in the game to distinguish himself, and had was actually taken out and replaced at the start of the second-quarter by newly-signed Kyle Orton (a former Bears QB, to add to the irony) after failing to move the offense. Orton's afternoon was a brief one however, as he injured his hand on his only play and Palko was re-inserted. Palko went 17 for 30 for 157 yards, and the TD pass was the first of his career. With a far-from-efficient offense, it was up to the Kansas City defense to keep them in the game, and they certainly held up their end of the bargain, looking more like some of the fearsome Chicago defenses than the 16th-ranked defense in the league. Against the Bears, who have their own QB issues to deal with, KC held the Chicago offense to 181 total yards, intercepting QB Caleb Hanie three times, as well as recording seven sacks . To add to Chicago's woes, RB Matt Forte, the NFL's third-leading rusher, suffered an MCL injury after a hard hit from a Johnson tackle and had to leave the game. The Jets picked up a big road win this past Sunday, overcoming three quarters of so-so play with a big final period in dispatching Washington, 34-19. The victory upped their record to 7-5 and still in the postseason hunt. They sit two games behind AFC East leader New England and are tied with four other AFC squads at 7-5. Trailing 16-13 midway through the fourth-quarter, the Jets, led by QB Mark Sanchez, scoried three touchdowns in a span of 3:02, including two TD runs by RB Shonn Greene to drop the Redskins to 4-8. Sanchez completed 19 of 32 passes for 165 yards and a TD, while Greene,in addition to reaching the end zone three times, rumbled for 88 yards on 22 carries. New York's defense, much like the offense, wasn't outstanding for the first three quarters, but took it up a level over the final half of the last quarter, with perhaps the most critical play being a sack and forced fumble by LB Aaron Maybin that snuffed out the Redskins last hope. Other than Washington rookie RB Roy Helu's career-best 100 yards rushing, the Jets had little trouble containing the 'Skins offensively. Safety Eric Smith led the Jets with 8 tackles. With both teams still hopeful of making a late-season push to the postseason, this promises to be a very hard-hitting, pull-out-all-the-stops affair. Kansas City, decimated by key injuries nearly the entire season, has somehow managed to stay afloat, but their offensive ineptitude raises a red flag. The Jets, with a virtual embarrassment of skilled offensive performers, have to get out of the practice of waiting until they absolutely "have" to turn on the switch to win games. New York travels to Philadelphia next week, a dangerous opponent given their pre-season expectations, while the Chiefs host none other than undefeated Green Bay next week before taking on fellow AFC West contenders Denver and Oakland. The Jets can’t afford to look past the Chiefs and they have to remain focused to get the big win and stay in the hunt for the playoffs.
