| NFL Week 14 Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings |
The latest odds for this game and all of the other exciting games in week 14 in the NFL can be found at the top rated sportsbook, Bet Phoenix. The Minnesota Vikings go to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. This game features two teams that are both struggling right now, but the Lions still have a shot at a playoff berth if they manage to defeat the Vikings. Detroit started the season 5-0, but have struggled ever since then. They currently sit at 7-5 and are tied with the Falcons and Bears for the wildcard spots in the playoffs. There are many reasons why the Lions have struggled the past few weeks. One of the major reasons is increased competition, which has been able to force Detroit into a lot of mistakes. While competitive on Thanksgiving day, the Lions turned the ball over 3 times against what is considered to be an average defense. Detroit got blown out by the Bears in Chicago and lost to a good San Francisco defense. It hasn't helped that the defense, especially the secondary, has been decimated by injuries. Rookie defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been hobbled and has not made the kind of impact he was expected to. Even players on the offense, including running backs Jahvid Best and Kevin Smith, have fallen prey to the injury bug. It also doesn't help that Ndamukong Suh is suspended for this game. On the bright side, the Lions still do have Matthew Stafford throwing it to Calvin Johnson. The man they call Megatron has 69 catches for almost 1100 yards and 12 touchdown catches this year. He will be a major force to be reckoned with on Sunday. Johnson is the type of guy that you can throw it up to him and he can catch it no matter how many guys are trying to cover him. It won't help that the Vikings have almost no talent on defense outside of Jared Allen. For Minnesota, not much has gone right in their 2-10 season. However, they have Jared Allen still rushing the passer effectively, with a whopping 15 sacks this year, and hope to get Adrian Peterson back from an ankle injury. If Allen can put some heat on Stafford, and Peterson can take advantage of a weakened Detroit front 7, they may be able to stay in this game. It will be up to rookie quarterback Christian Ponder to not make key mistakes. His stat line has been respectable for a rookie with 56 percent of his passes completed and a TD-INT ratio of 9-8, but he has to make sure he protects the ball. He threw a pick six on his own side of the field that helped them lose the game against Denver last week. That needs to change if he intends on being a franchise quarterback. He will look to Percy Harvin to make plays through the air, he leads the team with 59 catches for 710 yards. Harvin is speedy and should be able to take advantage of good match-ups in Detroit's secondary. For the Vikings, who are playing out the string, they will go back home to face New Orleans and Drew Brees. The most interesting part of that game will be to see if Allen can keep working on breaking the sack record. The Lions, who are looking to continue their push to the playoffs, will travel to Oakland to take on the Raiders in an important game. This NFC North match-up has a point spread of 7 points and Detroit is the favorite to win. That number is hefty, but there is no reason that the Lions cannot take down the Vikings and cover this number.

The Detroit Lions need to get back on the winning track before they fall off the NFL playoff race, so beating the Minnesota Vikings is a must.
