The BCS' No. 18 Texas Christian Horned Frogs nearly beat 2011 Heisman Winner Robert Griffin III and No. 12 Baylor in the opener on the road falling 50-48. 10-2, 7-0 TCU's remarkable comeback from 24 points down after three quarters ended with anguish when the 9-3, 6-3 Bears' kicker put a field goal through the uprights with a little over a minute left. The Frogs' 15 minutes of fame however came more than two months later stunning No. 7 Boise State on their notorious Blue Field 36-35. Despite Texas Christian's dominant season in the Mountain West not losing a game the year seemed to be disappointing not making it to a BCS Bowl Game and losing twice by the end of the first day of October. 7-5, 5-3 Southern Methodist tripped up the Horned Frogs 40-33 in overtime on Oct. 1 to sour expectations for TCU. However the Frogs learned from the bitter loss that snapped their 22-game home winning streak not losing since. Trailing 17-0 Texas Christian finally got some points on the scoreboard when junior running back Matthew Tucker ran in from a yard out. Senior placekicker Ross Evans added a field goal at the first-half gun, but the Mustangs scored the next 10 points to regain their 17-point stranglehold. Seven seconds into the fourth period sophomore quarterback Casey Pachall hooked up with sophomore wide receiver Josh Boyce for a touchdown. SMU wasted little time striking again, but missed the extra point afterward leaving the door open for the Horned Frogs who scored again when Pachall found freshman WR Brandon Carter. The ensuing two-point conversion was missed; however Evans' FG along with Pachall's TD to senior fullback Luke Shivers tied it up. TCU's reward for going undefeated since losing to the Mustangs is a date with the 8-4, 6-1 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, the Western Athletic Conference Champion, at the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. La Tech is riding their own seven-game win streak since losing 44-26 to 6-7, 3-4 Hawaii at home. The 'Dogs began their trek with narrow losses to No. 19 Houston at home, at 6-6, 2-6 Mississippi State in overtime and at No. 21 Southern Mississippi. Louisiana Tech has a chance to pull off the upset in this game and they have the weapons to pull it off. Especially, if the Horned Frogs come in disappointed about missing a BCS bowl game.
