The 6-6, 4-5 Arizona State Sun Devils figured to compete for the Pacific-12 South Conference title. While ASU did exactly that losing five of their last six games starting with conference champ No. 5 Oregon on the road stung. Had the Devils just won at 6-7, 5-4 UCLA on Nov. 5 instead of losing 29-28 Arizona State would have had a rematch with the 11-2, 8-1 Ducks during championship weekend.

Losing to the Bruins began a four-game dip for the Sun Devils who narrowly missed a bowl game last year. ASU figured to be in a lousy bowl and while that can be debated, their opponent is one of the best teams in all of the land. The Devils had a chance to beat UCLA at the very end, but freshman placekicker Alex Garoutte's field goal fell short (one of three missed FGs during the game). Junior quarterback Brock Osweiler's one-yard plunge to the goal line midway through the fourth quarter put Arizona State on top 28-23.

Osweiler hooked up with junior wide receivers Jamal Miles and A.J. Pickens earlier in the game. Because of an errant extra point by the Bruins on their first touchdown, after Pickens' TD reception Garoutte gave the Sun Devils their first lead. A minute into the second period junior running back Cameron Marshall raced in from 14 yards out to make it 14-6 before UCLA rallied to go into intermission on top 16-14.

The Broncos began the season with a bang dumping No. 16 Georgia and 8-4, 7-1 Toledo on the road before beating 8-4, 7-1 Tulsa and 7-5, 5-2 Nevada at home. Then came two 50-point thumpings before 7-5, 3-4 Air Force gave them all they could handle. The Falcons probably gave Boise State their most difficult game beside TCU who clipped the Broncos 36-35 with a successful two-point conversion.

AFA flopped to 0-3 in the MWC, but not until giving BSU a major scare at Bronco Stadium. The Falcons won four of their last five to head to their bowl game aganst the Rockets on fire. However had Air Force not stood up to Boise State on that particular Saturday, perhaps the Frogs would not have won a few weeks later. The what ifs in sports are always interesting to ponder. What can't be denied is senior QB Kellen Moore college football's winningest QB ever. All Moore does is win so tossing an 18-yard and 24-yard pass to WRs senior Matt Miller and freshman Tyler Shoemaker shouldn't come as a surprise.

Moore is one of the best in college football history and he will be determined to end his career at Boise with a bowl victory.
