Mississippi State however made Dan Mullen proud during their last game winning the Egg Bowl easily. Senior quarterback Chris Relf found fellow senior running back Vick Ballard for an 18-yard strike through the air as Ballard ran 25 yards in to begin the third quarter to increase the Bulldogs' lead to 28-0. Senior placekicker Derek DePasquale added the finishing touches as sophomore RB LaDarius Perkins also ran and caught a touchdown. MSU only had 70 yards through the air, but 38 of those yards came on a pair of TDs as the Rebels only totaled 202 yards from the line of scrimmage.

Neither team was efficient on third down as the 'Dogs finished with seven more first downs, 17-10. The effectiveness of the run was the big difference with Mississippi State averaging nearly three more yards per rush for 247 yards. The Bulldogs hope to take the same force and intensity with them on the ground against WF who was vandalized by 6-6, 2-6 Vanderbilt in Winston-Salem on Nov. 26.

The Commodores became bowl eligible with the win against the Deacons who led 7-6 early during the second period before being embarrassed the rest of the way on their home field. Scoring Wake Forest's only TD and points as it would turn out was junior wide receiver Terrence Davis from sophomore QB Tanner Price on a 10-yard pass play. The Demon Deacons had seven less first downs, 24-17, but were 0-or-3 on fourth down and made one turnover compared to the visitors making none and just one penalty. As well Vandy outrushed WF 297-146.

Wake Forest will be one of the few teams that will have a chance to beat an SEC team in a bowl game this year when they play the Bulldogs.
