The Aggies blew big leads against the BCS' No. 6 Arkansas and No. 3 Oklahoma State in back-to-back weeks just to name two examples of their woefulness. A three-game winning streak however hushed criticism until Oct. 29 against 7-5, 5-4 Missouri. The Utes hardly looked like a bowl team the first couple months of this year and in their last game of the regular-season spotting the Buffaloes a 10-0 lead. Senior running back Tauni Vakapuna finally put Utah on the scoreboard during the third quarter as junior quarterback Jon Hays found senior RB Shawn Asiata later during the period to pull the Utes back within three. Unfortunately junior placekicker Coleman Petersen missed a game-tying field goal late, only his third miss of the game. All year long Utah's problem has been offense and against mediocre CU that problem area surfaced again getting outgained 373-274. The Utes now must turn from one of the worst teams in the Pac-12 to one of the best from the Atlantic Coastal Conference. Had GT not had a second-half of a season demise the Jackets might be playing in a bigger bowl like the Sugar or Orange. Not much was sweet about Georgia Tech's year after going 6-0 through the second week of October. Two home and two away losses followed as about all the Yellow Jackets could celebrate was an upset win over the eventual ACC Champion No. 15 Clemson. 31-17 winners over the 10-3, 6-2 Tigers was the same result as at home versus No. 16 Georgia during GT's regular-season finale. The Jackets had a few things go awry like settling for a 22-yard FG from sophomore placekicker Justin Moore when trailing 7-0 to begin the second period. Then there was the aftermath of sophomore QB David Sims' five-yard touchdown run with 1:13 to go during the first half. It was more than enough time for the 10-3, 7-2 Bulldogs to drive down the field to tack on three more points. After UGA got two more scores on the board during the third, junior RB Orwin Smith ran in from 15 yards out. Georgia Tech nearly had double the rushing yards, but one more turnover and less than half of the 'Dogs passing yards assured them of a loss. Utah could be just outmanned in this game as the Jackets will pound the ground and get the win over the Utes.
