Can you blame the Rick Neuheiselless or Ron Zookless teams from accepting bowls? However you have to question the people in San Francisco at the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl to invite them in the first place. UCLA became the first team in a decade to go to a bowl game despite a losing record while Illinois is the first team to ever lose its last six regular-season games after starting the year 6-0.

At least the bowl people got it right taking two teams not worth a lick to go toe-to-toe at AT&T Park. As bad the Bruins are offensively, the Illini averaged 11 points per game over their last six contests. The offense for UCLA was worse than the numbers suggest. At times the Bruins would struggle to just get first downs.

During the Pacific-12 Conference Championship at the BCS' No. 5 Oregon, UCLA fell 49-31. The Bruins scored first on a junior linebacker Patrick Larimore pick six from 35 yards away. UCLA's first offensive touchdown during the second quarter was two yards longer with junior quarterback Kevin Prince finding senior wide receiver Nelson Rosario. Senior placekicker Tyler Gonzalez booted through a field goal before Prince ran one in and then found Rosario for another strike during the final minutes of the ballgame.

The Bruins had four turnovers, something they can't afford to do against Illinois. In the game at AT&T Park the best offense might be punting especially if it rains. The Fighting Illini are much better defensively, 21st nationally in points allowed compared to UCLA at 96th, despite having a slightly worse scoring offense. The horrific offense was on full display at 3-9, 2-6 Minnesota a month ago. Illinois fell 27-7 only scoring on senior running back Troy Pollard's 11-yard run with 4:25 to go during the third period. The Illini had trailed 27-0.

Illinois had the only TO when freshman QB Reilly O'Toole fumbled during a Golden Gopher sack attempt. O'Toole shared time with sophomore QB Nathan Scheelhaase who was 4-of-6 for 15 passing yards. The explanation for why the Fighting Illini did so well early on this season was their first five games were at home.

Two ugly teams face off in a bowl game with an ugly name, it may be best to watch another one on this game day.
