The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the league’s biggest disappointments this year as the overachieving team from last year has completely fallen off the map. The problem starts on the offensive end as quarterback Josh Freeman has thrown just 14 touchdowns compared to 19 interceptions. The Bucs were notoriously slow starters but great finishers last season and find themselves falling behind plenty early again this year but without any spark late in games to engineer comebacks. Defensively the Bucs have been poor all season as well as the stop unit ranks 31st against the run and 24th against the pass in terms of yards allowed. Head coach Raheem Morris is clearly on the hot seat and even a win against Atlanta is unlikely to change that. The Atlanta Falcons are headed to the postseason once again but a win and Detroit loss could ensure that the Falcons don’t need to face the Saints in the opening round after being dominated by New Orleans on Monday Night Football this past week. The Falcons have been a great home team under Matt Ryan’s direction at quarterback and while they have lost two games this season, the phenomenon remains intact. If the Georgia Dome weren’t enough of an edge, the Falcons are also looking to avenge an early season loss to the Bucs back in Week 3, a game in which Matt Ryan committed three turnovers. Look for Michael Turner to get back on track on the ground here after failing to reach 100 yards in his past six games. It looks like Tampa Bay gave up on the season a long time ago and it will be interesting to see if the Falcons can take advantage of that.

The Atlanta Falcons will be playing for a playoff spot and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have nothing to play for.
