| NFL Monday Night Football Week4 |
On prime time television Brett Favre became the first quarterback in history to beat all 32 NFL teams. He save the best for last, his former career-team the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings keep the streak going, they are still undefeafed at 4-0 to end the first quarter of the season. The Packers drop to 2-2. One of the reasons, maybe the MAIN reason, that Favre came out of retirement for the second time and signed with Minnesota was that he would have two opportunities in the season to face the Packers and “stick it”to the Green Bay organisation and particularly the general manager Ted Thompson after the bitter divorce at the end of the 2007 season. “I don’t know how to explain it.I felt right, but I guess I never thought I’d be in this situation.”said Favre. Favre showed great composure completing 24 of 31 passes for 271 yards including 3 touchdowns and zero turnovers.A very solid performance as he is customary to throw a few wild ones.None of that on Monday night as he was focused all the time and looked like a man on a mission. All his teammates played with an intensity which compared to the one you feel in a Super Bowl game. Favre was given plenty of time to throw by his offensive line throughout the game and was never sacked, while his replacement with the Packers Aaron Rodgers found himself in the opposite situation. He was sacked 8 times,4 ½ of them credited to Jared Allen(a carrer high) including a safety in the fouth quarter.Rodgers went 26 of 37 for 384 yards(career-high) but had two turnovers that Favre converted into touchdown passes in the first half. “Below my expectations, definitely”said Rodgers “To have three possessions in their territory and come away with zero points, two of them directly related to my mistakes, that’s disappointing.” In Rodgers defense the Vikings rushed relentlessly and the Packers offensive line didn’t do enough to protect him. The Packers defense however did a great job stopping the run, holding Adrian Peterson to 12 yards in 11 carries in the second half and 55 yards for the game.Peterson had a 1-yard rushing TD with 30 seconds left in the first half to give a 21-14 lead to the Vikings. “I definitely wanted to get this win for Brett”said Peterson “He downplayed it all week, but I just knew it meant a lot to him.” One of the most exciting and charismatic players in NFL history ,Favre has had mixed results in emotional games. In 2003 on Monday night against Oakland after the death of his father Brett threw for 399 yards and 4 TDs but he went 14 for 35 with 4 interceptions in his first game against Mike Holmgren when the coach took off to Seattle. He came on top this time and if he was looking for revenge,he go it. “My statement has been what I’ve done over my career” Favre said “One game doesn’t define my career good or bad.I know what I have done.I’m proud of what I’ve done.I know I can play.I wanted to do what it takes to win.” This was a highly anticipated game and everybody in the stadium stood all the way through the first Viking’s possession instead of sitting after a few snaps. It also was a great game but the Vikings wanted this win and the whole team had its best showing of the season in a great effort to support their quarterback. he Vikings travel to St Louis on week 5 to face the Rams who got blown-out 35-0 by the 49ers on Sunday.Favre and his teammates shouldn’t have any trouble to remain undefeated.
