| Bengals swept Steelers with 18-12 road win |
Cincinnati bBengals swept Steelers with 18-12 road wineat Pittsburgh 23-20 on Week 3,thanks to a touchdown in the last seconds of the game,in what everybody saw as a big upset. They have since won both games against division rivals Baltimore, and with the victory at Heinz Field are 5-0 in the AFC North.Unless the Bengals suffer a huge collapse, the Steelers will have to look for a wild card to get in the postseason. The Cincinnati’s defense held Pittsburgh’s offense to 226 yards total and denied Ben Roethlisberger the end zone.Under constant pressure,Big Ben was held to 174 yds in 10 of 20 passes, was sacked four times and picked once. They nullified the Steelers running game, limiting Rashard Mendenhall to 36 yds in 13 carries. The Steelers did their job, too,in defense, only allowing the Bengals 218 yards in offense.Carson Palmer finished 18 of 30 for 178 yards,no TD and no interception. The only big play of the game came on the kickoff following Steelers’ Jeff Reed’s 28-yard field goal to open the score with 4:43 left in the first quarter.Bernard Scott ran almost the whole field for a 96-yard return TD.That would turn out to be the only touchdown of the game and the difference between winning and losing. The defenses dominated the whole game, and again The Steelers had to play without safety Pro Bowler Troy Polamalu who aggravated his knee injury after only a few series on the field.Polamalu had also missed the first meeting in Cincinnati. In the second quarter Pittsburgh took a 9-6 lead to halftime with two more field goals by Reed. Two field goals from Shayne Graham in the third quarter gave the Bengals a 12-9 lead, but the Steelers answered with one from Jeff Reed to tie the game again with 11:20 left in the fourth quarter. The Bengals then didn’t allowed the Steelers another significant drive and scored on two more field goals to set the winning score 18-12. “That’s probably the most grinding football game I ever experienced” said Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. By sweeping Pittsburgh, for the first time since 1998,the Bengals are two games ahead of their usual archrival because they own the tiebreaker. At this stage of the season they are usually already playing to build for the next year, none of that now as the playoffs are very much in the picture after that impressive victory. “This is a breath of fresh air to be at this point of the season and to be playing for a reason” Chad Ochocinco said “It feels really good.” It was a disappointing loss for the Steelers who had won five in a row, scoring at least 27 points in each of those games. The Steelers got the ball back with a little less than two minutes to play, but Big Ben threw incomplete passes on four consecutive downs. “There was just something missing all day,I don’t know what it was”said Roethlisberger “..We just didn’t make the plays we normally make.” The Steelers will look to reedem themselves in Kansas City, and the Bengals receive the Browns on Sunday.
