Saints still unbeaten with 28-23 win over Rams The New Orleans Saints survived a big scare against the Rams (1-8) to tie the franchise’s best start 9-0.

What looked like a potential easy road-win for the Saints was anything but that as the Rams arguably played their best game of the season.

The Saints overcame 3 turnovers -2 Drew Brees INTs and 1 Marques Colston fumble-on Sunday, for a total of 13 in the last 4 games.

Turnovers hurt, and, with the offense stalling in the fourth quarter,New Orleans opened the door for the Rams. The Saints scored less than 30 points for the first time in five games, and St.Louis’ QB Marc Bulger had an opportunity to win the game from New Orleans’32 when he threw incomplete in the end zone on the final play.

Reggie Bush helped the Saints to stay perfect with two scores in the second quarter to reach halftime ar 14-14.Bush ran for 83 yards and 1TD in 6 carries and caught a 15-yd TD pass from Brees. Bush only rushed for 194 yards and 4 TDs in 8 games before facing the Rams, but with Pierre thomas and Mike Bell emerging as a triple threat(along with Bush), the Saints have a solid running game.

“I don’t think I’ve dropped off at all”said Bush “..I don’t feel any faster or slower.”

The Saints are finding many different ways to win games this season under coach Sean Payton, who gave $250,000 of his own salary to bring defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

With Williams directing, the New Orleans’ defense has registered a league-high 25 takeaways (3 more than all last season) and scored 7 touchdowns.

The ability of Payton and Williams to make adjustments in the second half has been outstanding, and allowed the Saints to rally in the three previous games.

With an offense scoring 36.8 points per game under the direction of QB Drew Brees, the Saints look like they could go all the way to 16-0 in 2009.

Although every game in the NFL is tough to win, especially when you’re undefeated and every opponent wants to end your streak, the major obstacle to a perfect season could be next week the New England Patriots, who very nearly ended the Colts’ unbeaten record on Sunday.

The Patriots went 18-0 in 2007 before losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl.

The Rams faced their third straight unbeaten team at home on Sunday,a first in NFL history. They did better against the Saints, they lost 42-6 to the Colts and 38-10 to the Vikings.

The Saints visit 1-8 Tampa Bay on Sunday before receiving the Patriots on Monday night on Week 12.
