Chargers – Broncos Preview Big game on Sunday for the leaders of the AFC West, the winner of San Diego (6-3) vs Denver (6-3) will walk off the field on top of the division alone.

Who could have thought the Chargers would be in this position when they lost on Week 6 at home 34-23 to the Broncos who notched their 6th straight win to start the season and had a 3 ½ games advantage over them.

Since then San Diego has won 4 consecutive games and Denver has lost their last 3. What a turn of events !

Not even the Chargers in their wildest dreams believed they could come back so fast to tie their archrivals Broncos.

San Diego’s winning streak matches the four consecutive games they won at the end of last season to finish 8-8.They beat Denver 52-21 in the regular-season finale and became the first team in the NFL to go to the playoff from a 4-8 record.

The Broncos helped by loosing their last 3 games in 2008,becoming the first team to miss the playoffs with a 3-game lead and 3 to play.

After holding a commanding lead,Denver is again sliding dangerously and a fourth loss on Sunday could mean they might miss the playoffs for the fourth straigh year.Only two teams in the Super Bowl era have failed to advance to the postseason after a 6-0 start.

And the Broncos might have to stop the bleeding on Sunday without their starting QB Kyle Orton, who injured his right ankle in the 27-17 loss at Washington.

Backup Chris Simms was 3 of 13 for for 13 yards and 1 INT after Orton was hurt. That’s not very encouraging for a team in need of rebuilding some confidence.

The Broncos’ defense, which was so dominating in the first 6 games allowing only 79.6 rushing-yards per game, has permited its opponents 157.3 in the last 3.

That’s good news for San Diego’s RB LaDainian Tomlison, who rushed for a season high 96 yards and 2 TDs in the 31-23 victory over Philadelphia last week.

Chargers’ QB Philip Rivers was 20 of 25 for 231 yards and 2 TDs against the Eagles,he was surprise by his team lightning recovery in their division : “We didn’t know it would happen like this,or this fast, that we would be sitting here with the same record, but we believed we could get ourselves back in it because we were talking about 11 more ballgames.”Rivers said.

Eddie Royal was the first Bronco to return a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the same game, last month in San Diego.Denver will certainly need more of his magic if they want to win again on Sunday.

One team has got things together in the last few weeks, and the other is in total disarray.

I think the Chargers will win on Sunday, and again deny the Broncos a berth in the playoffs this season.
